You mean besides the obvious-3 -3 turnover ratio barely hit or blocks shots? Seems like he’s average to good but hardly elite or great

hits=getting out of position defensively and usually over committing to one guy, he also had the second best xGA for forwards last year, and he had the best EVD GAR league wide for forwards last year and ik GAR and xGA aren't the only stats, but they aren't bad and useless, and when he was that good, they definitely deserve some note

Makes sense look at his past comments he once said that Copp was better than Kuznetsov. He’s far from being a capitals fan. He might hate them for not overpaying beagle.

There was no way they could match that. Carlson was a bigger priority and is thankfully doing okay. Plus, why sign Beagle when you can get a better defensive forward just by calling up any old guy from the AHL, putting him on a line with a superstar for a few games with over 60% offensive zone starts, and....

There is a poster who goes absolutely bonkers off the mark with basing player trade values on meaningless advanced stats...

Haha it’s very common. Advanced stats are cool but most people look way too hard at them when the answer is obvious.

So that’s how you view hits? My god.
XGa isn’t the god corsi stat and to only focus on that and no other factors is clown worthy.
It’s pretty obvious to everyone besides you that he’s good to average definitely but you can literally look at corsi to make yourself feel better. How many selke votes did he get with those mind blowing numbers?

nope, I'll admit that Simon doesn't have a ton of value, just pointing out stats that say he's better than he appears, and the pens organization likely values him very very highly... the whole playing with Crosby thing

How many Selke voters actually know and understand the game of hockey lmao, and you actually think hits and BKS are good stats to measure defensive ability...

If they played Galchenyuk with Crosby, we'd have nothing to talk about.

lmao, Galch A. has played a bit with Crosby and looked terrible, and B. has literally nothing to his game other than a slightly above average shot

...and that's done nothing for him but get him 129 goals, up to 30 in a season. Completely agree. Beginner stats FTW. https://www.nhl.com/player/alex-galchenyuk-8476851

A. I said in my previous statement that the stats i used aren't the be all end all, but they do deserve some recognition, and B. I also fully expect him to not get a selke vote, and C. I LITERALLY DIRECTLY SAID THAT HE LIKELY ISN'T THE BEST DEFENSIVE FORWARD IN THE LEAGUE< JUST UNDERRATED

He’s a 4th line player getting top line minutes and that’s underrated to you?

by people outside the pens organization, plus he isn't a fourth liner, he clearly is better at driving play than most fourth liners... and third liners etc... not every team is fortunate enough to have Travis Boyd in their bottom 6...

No,

It's a guy that'll trade the likes of Travis Boyd for a #1RW, or Nick Jensen for a bonified #1D or Copley for both a #1D and a top line scorer. Then when you call balogne he will pull out some advanced stats that no one knew even existed as BEYOND REPROACH proof that the other team is actually getting more value.

That guy sounds crazy. You should probably ignore him. No sense trying to reason with someone who's immune.

I mean, most of the Selke voters seem to just go by plus/minus and points, just like they do with the Norris. Those are totally worthless stats if you're trying to predict who will stay good the next year, because all they do is count what happened the previous year. But if you're trying to give awards for what happened the previous year, they're awesome.

Pretty sure he’s scratched. We are lucky enough to have Pánik AND Hagelin on the 3rd line.

If only some crazy fan with nothing better to do had spent two years looking at every possible stat to make a case for NOT trading Burakovsky away.

Oh wait....
