Lou drops bernier

Created by: CaptainTavares
Team: 2016-17 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jul. 8, 2016
Published: Jul. 11, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Assuming no more trades are made, which is quite possible, this is how the leafs should look on opening night. Wisniewski is added for an extra RH def, with Carrick possibly starting in the AHL and him along with others (hyman, brown, sosh) being called up at the deadline when any of laich, michalek, polak, hunwick, greening, etc. are moved out for picks/prospects.

With the new cap space, it is still possible for the leafs to explore a trade for an impact player, but it seems unlikely at this point. The only trade I see possible is to move out JVR or Bozak for defensive help, or maybe even lucky enough for someone to take Lupul off our hands! Go Leafs Go!

I'll disagree with the theory of placing Hyman, Brown and Soshnikov in the AHL. By last years play it looks like they might have earned a shot in the NHL. Sosh and Hyman are 23 years old, so it's not like a lot more seasoning is necessary. Might just playing them in the AHL actually hinder their development? Carrick would have to go through waivers to sent to the AHL. He has had three years in the AHL/NHL and sure looks he is NHL ready. Zaitsev, Polak, Carrick, Corrado are all RHD. Don't know if having a 32 year old Wisniewski coming off achilles injury helps the Leafs now helps the development of the "youngster."
JVR is now on a NTC, (details not known), so if the Leafs didn't trade him by June 30th, I doubt if they want to do it now. Vesey probably sees the log jam of good young Leaf wingers and won't sign with the Leafs.

I agree with everything but Vesey. Though we are in tough with Buffalo and Boston for his rights he could see it as a log jam or the building of something special and seeing the only true LW top 6 we have is van Reimsdyk he could see playing with the likes of Matthews, Nylander and Kadri at center as quality young core that he can plug in at Matthews wing. Do I think he will sign...maybe but not cause of the logjam cause like I said at his natural position there is very little NHL ready players.

hockeymad. You're right if Vesey sees a shot of being the # 1 or 2 LWer playing with Matthews,, Kadri or maybe Nylander at centre......maybe the Leafs are a good fit for him. Though Pittsburg and Buffalo sure have the same attraction too. It just must be awful to be 23 years old, Harvard graduate, athlete, and a choice of any NHL team to play for.....all those flights, dinners, sight sighting and more.....just to decide where I want to "play" and earn millions of dollars.smile

There is a very minimal chance you see all 3 of Hyman, Brown and Soshnikov in the NHL. Big minutes with the marlies will not hurt their development, they seem destined to be bottom 6 players in the NHL anyway, save maybe brown. Coming up at the deadline will be just fine for them. Carrick def starts with the team I agree, Wis was just an option based on rumours, not saying it will or should happen. Leafs don't have much depth at LW that have top 6 potential, Vesey may choose the leafs, it seems just as likely as anyone else at this point in my opinion!
