Getting a LHD

Created by: NotTheGM
Team: 2019-20 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2019
Published: Dec. 29, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
These would be what I imagine are the best D-Men Options the jets could acquire to solidify the second pairing. Not sure what the value would be for either Guy so I took a guess. If the value is far off I’m hoping this could at least be a starting point.

Erik Gustafsson would be a nice add on this fast, offensive team.

Didn’t even think of him! If he is capable Defensively in his own zone then I don’t see why he wouldn’t be an upgrade from what the jets currently have. What do you think the value would be for him?

Gus would be worth a 2nd or a 3rd and prospect. However, he's not known for his defensive abilities as much as offensive and PP. if you're looking for a stay at home defender on the left side, Maatta is a good option and although is a $4M cap hit, he carries only a $680K buyout; he's a very solid 3rd liner. He'd be worth less then Gus, probably a 3rd.

You really think Gus is worth that much? He is brutal in his own end. I would be estatic with just a 3rd round pick.

I'd really like the Jets to get Brodin somehow but I think the asking price would be pretty high, so much so it's just not worth it and the Wild are right in the playoff race, can't see them being officially out of or in it until sometime after the TDL so doubt Brodin is traded this season.

It's really too bad that Chevy threw away so many picks, prospects and players on rentals and not needed cap relief the last couple seasons, not to mention the UFA's he let walk for nothing and the Trouba saga that dragged on for far too long and limited his return to almost nothing, luckily for him Pionk has been a revelation and Heinola looked really good in his few games he got in this season.

If you were to add up all those picks and players dealt away and put them into getting one or two guys you gotta think they could of landed a good D with some term attached to them, the hanging onto Trouba was his worst move though, should've been traded a long time ago well before this past summer.

Brutal is an over reacting. Gus isn't great in our end but he's better then Boqvist has been so far in our own end.

What is the point of playing him over Boqvist? Hawks aren't going anywhere this year or next. They need to rebuild. Also, Gus is what 27 already? He isn't getting any better. Trade him and clear some space for the young guys to play and learn.

Problem is, Seabs and De Haan might not return and if they do, they are both (especially DeHaan) susceptible to injuring again. My point is this, if we trade Gus then we need a 2nd or 3rd back at worst. Otherwise, his value isn't that high and he will come cheap to re-sign. We can't count on DeHaan at this point and Seabs is 8 years older then Gus and likely will be a healthy scratch at times for whatever he has left in the tank. Maatta is a pylon, very immobile but fine if he isn't chasing down guys which means he has to play with a linemate that is mobile, Gus isn't a bad partner or conversely Boqvist. Keith and Murphy are solid together. Gilbert and Gus would be a good pair. The question boils down to, is Mitchell ready for fulltime duties and do we keep Maatta around?

Again, I'm all for trading Gus if we can get a 2nd, a 3rd and i'm thinking about it, anything less then we should be able to re-sign him under $3M.

I'd rather they trade Gus, Maatta, and DeHaan. Sign someone like Edmundson and have Gilbert play on his natural side on the left. Let Mitchell play full time next year and learn. Isn't this one of the reasons Blowman traded away Joker? So your right side is Murphy, Boqvist, and Mitchell.

Again, my point is Hawks need to rebuild. What is the point of having Gus take up valuable ice time next year away from youngsters? We need to let Boqvist take over #1pp duties at the point. If Gus is not manning the #1pp, I really see no value in keeping him. Trade him for whatever you can get and move on already.

Lol, because Hawks need to replace DeHaan who can't be trusted to play a complete season. You are not taking PP time from Boqvist in Edmundson. You then open a spot for Gilbert on 3rd pairing d on the left side (natural side) and Mitchell on the right instead of wasting 20+ minutes on a no defense playing, don't know how to play a 2v1, falling down, soft dmen that will be 28 yrs old and not getting any better. Hawks fan cries about our defense being crap, well Gus is one of the main culprits.
