<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ChiHawk</b></div><div>Problem is, Seabs and De Haan might not return and if they do, they are both (especially DeHaan) susceptible to injuring again. My point is this, if we trade Gus then we need a 2nd or 3rd back at worst. Otherwise, his value isn't that high and he will come cheap to re-sign. We can't count on DeHaan at this point and Seabs is 8 years older then Gus and likely will be a healthy scratch at times for whatever he has left in the tank. Maatta is a pylon, very immobile but fine if he isn't chasing down guys which means he has to play with a linemate that is mobile, Gus isn't a bad partner or conversely Boqvist. Keith and Murphy are solid together. Gilbert and Gus would be a good pair. The question boils down to, is Mitchell ready for fulltime duties and do we keep Maatta around?

Again, I'm all for trading Gus if we can get a 2nd, a 3rd and i'm thinking about it, anything less then we should be able to re-sign him under $3M.</div></div>

I'd rather they trade Gus, Maatta, and DeHaan. Sign someone like Edmundson and have Gilbert play on his natural side on the left. Let Mitchell play full time next year and learn. Isn't this one of the reasons Blowman traded away Joker? So your right side is Murphy, Boqvist, and Mitchell.

Again, my point is Hawks need to rebuild. What is the point of having Gus take up valuable ice time next year away from youngsters? We need to let Boqvist take over #1pp duties at the point. If Gus is not manning the #1pp, I really see no value in keeping him. Trade him for whatever you can get and move on already.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>HatterTParty</b></div><div>Here’s the problem with the top six forward prospects point. We have debrincat, strome, kubalik, even Saad. Cat and strome are both 22 or under and consistent producers. On top of that, toews and Kane aren’t going anywhere for at least another 3 plus years. Lastly, offense hasn’t been our problem the last few years. The fact that it is now is because JC plays a **** defensive system that emphasizes the worst in our team.

Essentially, taking dach was fixing a problem that wasn’t a problem YET. Byram fixed a problem that was IMMEDIATELY a problem. Sure we have plenty of prospects, but ask Carolina and Nashville if that’s a problem. It’s not. In fact, it actually gives you plenty of trade capital, that is if Blowman doesn’t give up a top prospect for a **** forward straight up. Plus, this next has a stacked crop of forwards. Are the hawks gonna pass on a plethora of top forward prospects to take a defenseman this time? Or let the problem go unfixed again?</div></div>

It takes 5 players to play defense. Maybe defense has been an issue because our forwards can't play **** for defense or don't care to. How many times do you see the Hawks having 3 forwards behind the net in the ozone, which turns in to an odd many break? Maybe part of the issue with the team is we only have 2 legitimate top 6 2 way forwards w/o including Dach. I would also argue that on a truly good team Kubalik and Strome are in no way top 6, but 3rd line players. Strome can't do **** without ADB and/or Kane.
