You seem reasonable with your bias though... Lol
What do you really think Petry is worth to acquire?
And for the sake of discussion let's say no retention but possibly an expiring deal going back to make the money work for Vegas(or whoever) is acquiring Petry.
I've done the thought experiment numerous times and the trade that makes the most sense in which it gives Vegas as much incentive to pay full value to Montreal while getting the biggest cap flexibility back is:
(Obviously tweaking can be made but structure IMO is pretty damn spot on)
Petry (50%)
for
Nick Holden
Valentin Zykov Or Jimmy Schuldt or Zach Whitecloud
1st 2020 VGS
2nd 2021 NJ
3rd 2020 NJ
Vegas gets right handed top 4 dman for this year and next @ 2.75M, dump Holdens contract for the rest of this year, don't lose on of their better prospects (Krebs, Hague, etc) and only lose picks in the draft in which they still have multiples of in certain rounds.
That is me being as moderate as possible. Muzzin's deal is a clear example and I feel Vegas would be getting a similar dman for less cost and liberating a contract of their own, which Toronto didn't have to do for Muzzin. This extra moderation comes for the fact that Petry would be 32 when this trade happens while Muzzin was 29.
Vegas would be more than welcome to decline but that would be my "not going any lower price' for Petry @ 50% retained. Without the retention, Vegas would remove the 2nd rounder from the deal.
