Kapanen alone is more then enough for Petry, not sure what all the other pieces are for.

Petry is what people thought gards was, so Kap and a small piece is more than sufficient

Not a Leafs fan so I don't care either way but Habs fans really overvalue Petry.

Petry's value right now as a #2RD = 1st, 2nd and a C prospect
Kapanen = 1st

The fact that Kapanen is 9 years younger, signed longer AND is a RFA once this affordable 3 season contract he has ends is more then enough to make up for a 2nd and C prospect.

Not sure where you’re goiing with that but Petry is on pace for another 40+ season, averaging over 23 minutes a night. He skate extremely well, he as size, have a active stick, have one of the hardest shot in nhl. I don’t know where or on what you based you evaluation of petry but he have the same value that muzzin had last year at least.

Toronto needs a bonafied #2 RD. They have tried to address this via the Barrie trade (and Ceci signings).

How is this not obvious to you?

They've recently said that Kap/Johnsson are available for a D man. Bracco also mentioned in rumors.
After Harpur their LD is pretty weak in the minors (Leskinen adds a viable 2nd pairing).

Being a professional GM is more than just watching the score sheet for points. You have to build contenders in both leagues.

And I think Kapanen is undervalued, his contract, RFA control and fact he's already a 40 point NHL player make him more valuable then those two extra pieces the Kings got for Muzzin.

Ceci signings? He was acquired in a trade.

Yeah I'm sure they could use an upgrade on their 2nd pairing RHD spot but many are saying how well Holl is playing and quite a few Leafs fans on here say Ceci isn't the problem he's made out to be. I just don't see the value in giving up a known long term controlled asset for two years of an aging dman, I think Dubas wouldn't want to asset management with more of a long term view.

I missed this announcement from Dubas that Kapanen and Johnsson are on the trade block for a 2nd pairing RHD, when did he make this?

Well good gawd they've only had Martin Marincin kicking around for how many years now?? If Dubas hasn't figured out he needs to add some depth at both L/RHD for the Leafs and Marlies then maybe he's not the genius everyone thinks he is.. Lol.. I actually think he is pretty smart but he should've made some smaller depth moves to improve the D/D callup situation.

Yeah I know being a GM is more then that, he's done well at building a winner at the AHL, time will tell what he can do at the NHL level.

Even if you think kapanen is undervalued this doesn’t affect the value Petry have. Where talking about one of the best defenseman the past three season. Petry is way more valuable then a 40-50 point winger. Petry alone average around 45 point the last 3 season. I mean Kapanen is a great players but he isn’t getting yound a top defenseman who play 23 + minutes.

I get what you're saying but I think you're completely discounting what Kapanen's contract/RFA control adds in value.

If the Habs had a guy with similar stats/age/contract status as Kapanen and Bergevin traded him for a 32 year old dman with 1.5 seasons left at over $5M you'd likely be pretty pissed about it no matter how good that dman was.

As I said. Petry is what people think gards is. He is good offensively but doesn't do the little things that make gards good defensively.

So offence wise they are similar, but gards does all these little things that help the team defensively and push play that Petry doesn't

Not if my team is a true contender. Montreal is far from a stanley cup contender. The maple leafs are a much better team with petry on their blueline. Thats the reality of the maple leafs. They are in their stanley cup windows. And with only 14 millions for 13 players next season this years might be déterminant

Sre you serious ?? Petry have improved considerably over the past three season he is way better then you think he is. He play against top line, penalty kills, power play. 23+ minutes

I am not saying that kapanen isn’t good or doesn’t hold any value but Petry has been in the top 30 defenseman the past 3 season in many categories. These defenseman are worth gold in nhl.
