Simple waiver claim

Created by: BigAnderson
Team: 2019-20 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 15, 2020

Description
Bruins placed Ritchie on waivers. Seems like an easy risk free chance for the Leafs to try putting a claim on him. Big bodied Ontario kid to bring some good old fashioned truculence to the 4th line. If it works than great, if it doesn’t, well doesn’t cost us anything.

But how does this help Toronto’s elite defense?

It is a better plan to keep the contract slot open.

Good thought.

As far as the "roster slot" argument is concerned, Toronto can always send Timashov, Brooks, Liljegren or Sandin back down when the indicated player recovers off IR.

Nylander has delivered great advanced stats, and that should be the best indication of overall 2 way play. He sometimes strips guys of the puck, and seems pretty responsible at getting back. Not sure about "defensively" really. The goal for him has got to be keeping the puck/ playing in the o-zone when possible...

They can't send Timashov down. He needs waivers, and will be claimed by someone. I would rather trade him than lose him for nothing. Something he has asked for, sources say

Just because it doesn't help your biggest need, doesn't make it valueless.
I happen to think the Leafs are already crazy stocked with depth wingers. If that is your comment...

I just automatically assumed that he was waiver-free. My bad!
