More like if 50% of salary is retained, there will be a boatload more of picks/prospects added.
For perspective the Leafs paid a 1st, Durzi and Gunderstrom for 1.25 years of Muzzin.

Weber for a salary dump, a midget and a 1st in two years from now when you have no idea what it's really worth?

Forrest Gump could make a better deal.

Salary dump? Are you seriously calling Cece for 30 more game a Salary dump? While, trying to push Weber's bloated contract on us for 8 years onto us.

Ok, I like Weber but his contract will handcuff a team for a half a decade past his usefulness... No thanks! If there were some way to abandon his contract he would be a prized player again. Your GM thought it was a good gamble so you'll need to see this one to the finish.

Your GM gave 51% of the salary cap to 4 forwards. You will need to trade one to balance your offence/defence. Weber’s contract is really cheap by today’s standards for what he can bring to a team. Your GM will now have to decide whether his team is a contender or still in rebuild mode. Otherwise, you will still talk about 1967 in 10 years from now.

I agree we will need to trade one of those players you referenced but not for Weber. If you like what he bring so much keep him ;-)

Habs are not a contender. Leafs are.

Time for Habs to trade the present for the future...and to unfortunately wait 5 years.

I hear you, I feel for you! My team has been in a 5-year rebuild mode for at least three decades now. Unfortunately, taking Weber's full contract would only serve to keep us there longer. When your GM sweetened the pot with salary-retention will be when the Leafs become open to discussing trading futures (i.e., prospects or 1st round picks).
