was just fckin around and didn't really pay much attention to the bottom 6, but I think adding Suter at 25% retention would be incredible. Yes his contract is a little too long, but he still is one of the best defenceman in the entire league and it would completely solidify our D corps for 2-3 years at least. 5.6M for a star defenceman is definitely a steal, only thing that would suck is regression which is going to happen but, with the D core we have we could shelter his minutes/usage and he'd still be uber effective IMO.

Have him mentor Pettersson/Marino smile

Nobody expects it because it is a horrible move and just way too much going to Min. He is 35, on a contract that is too much, and signed until he is 40!

Don’t hate the overall idea but no team is going to be willing to retain salary for 4+ years. Pens would have to find a way to shed a little more room.

Rutherfored isn't giving Hållander and Joseph, much less also a potential 1st, for Suter even at 50%. Suter's contract goes until he is 40. Puff puff pass.

is he not a top D in the league with really no signs of slowing down at this point? Just because he's signed till he's 40 doesn't make it or break it to me.. At that Salary (and I meant to include JJ in the deal) he'd be a steal for 1-2 maybe even 3 years. I'm not saying it's realistic at all or anything, but Suter is and has been one of the best all around minute eating D of the decade.

Meant to add JJ, but yeah no team is retaining for 4 years or more, but nonetheless, unrealistic trade and was just fckin around lol

I can see a no to letting go of Hallander but Joseph IMO isn't going to be much more than a fringe middle pairing guy. I just can't see a D man that's 160LB being great that shys away from the physical aspect of the game and doesn't necessarily make up for it in excelling in another area

You aren't getting a 3rd from Edmonton for Galchenyuk, not unless you're willing to retain 50%. And anyhow, their 2020 3rd is spoken for already.

I meant to make it 50% because they wouldn't be able to afford him unless we took someone back with similar cap hit and I don't believe they have any expiring contracts = to or around the same as Gally,
I'd do the trade for a 2021 3rd or even anything lol
CD282 liked this.

Doesn't change the point of my comment. Suter would become the oldest player on the Pens by a year and a half. Suter's contract would be the #3 cap hit on the Pens behind only Malkin and Crosby. That horrible contract continues for another 5+ seasons into Suter's 40th year.

He would help the team, he is a very good player, he is still crushing minutes, but he is absolutely an unnecessary piece. We need a scoring winger with Jake down. We probably needed one before that. That is just a lot of trade assets going towards a position that isn't in need.

Gagner would be the closest expiring deal, he's $3.15M I think.
