Lets break the cycle - NYR trade

Created by: claysbar
Team: 2019-20 Pittsburgh Penguins
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 31, 2020
Published: Jan. 31, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Yeah, PIT loses a 1st but they gain this year in the addition of Kreider and possibly Smith. Quite a few people on here thought Smith would have fit in nicely with PIT's system when he went to free agency but was looking for more money than PIT could afford. If he doesn't work out, he could be buried this year or bought out next year. PIT also gains some G depth with a guy who went fairly high and has pedigree but saw some health issues this past 12 months. The addition of POJ probably needs some more back from NYR but I think it's minor adjustments. NYR gets some cap relief for next year (for a re-building team they are horribly cap strapped), a 1st rounder (again, for a re-building team, they have very few picks) and a guy who could be a 4-5 D in a year or two.

Yes

As a yotes fan, POJ is literally not good. He’s a bust.

I think this would be more paying in cash to get better returns. For this year eating the 50% retention is because they can with Jake G being on LTIR. After DeSmith, I would have a shot at getting in games @ Wilkes-Barre so getting a recent 2nd rounder in goal would in it self be quite the coup.

Pitt should boo Kessel for nixing that Minny trade lol. Galchenyuk is going to leave for free and POJ is meh. They could've got Zucker lol

Think a lot of people overrate there cap situation next year the rangers are likely gonna make a trade like skjei or deangelo bc of the issues of have too many guys plus them trading Kreider and maybe smith to Ottawa

That makes sense. Rangers easily take it tho. Gotta imagine they say getting a first, former first LHD POJ even tho he sucks, and dumping Smith? They take it.

I would say yes if im the rangers. Getting the first and getting rid of smiths 4mm cap hit next year probably lets them re-sign krieder in the off season if they want or not trade TDA. Its not the best use of krieder as an asset but come deadline it would be an acceptable strategic offer.
