No they don't. 2 wings they don't need, a nice d-prospect, and a mid-late 2nd. For Dumba, a 3rd and Rask @ $2.75m isn't awful (still not great).

Burke was quoted saying “to get dumba they are going to have to give up a big name. Kapenen isn’t going to do it and you can’t just offer up more players. Has to be a key player”

They could use Kapanen, but they absolutely do not need Johnsson. They have too many guys who can play LW and had to shift Fiala over to RW.

Seriously 3rd line wings are something the Wild has plenty of.

Kapanen = Kunin, Zucc, Fiala (and Kaprizov comes next year)
Johnsson = Foligno, Parise, Zucker
With Donato, Greenway, and Hartman as 4th line, pressbox, or injury replacements.

So, yep not needed. Wild don't have top talent, and neither Kapanen or Johnsson are top talent.

They could use Kapanen..

LW next year could be Fiala, Parise, and whoever they keep of Zucker, Greenway, and Donato. RW could be Zuccarello, Kaprizov and Kapanen. Kunin may need to be moved to center if they let Koivu walk or trade Staal. Foligno and Hartman work fine on the 4th line.

That being said, I wouldn't trade Dumba just yet. They have time to hope he finds his game again and ups his value.

They still would be forced to move Kunin to center and trade away both Zucker and Donato to fit Kapanen into the lineup; which is a lateral move at best. If Zucc wasn't here Kapanen would make a lot of sense, but the Wild are stuck with Zucc (and Parise).

Kerfoot they could use (not for Dumba), and only trade away 1 wing. He'd at least fill the 3C hole the team has.

Parise/Staal/Zucc-scoring line 1
Greenway/JEE/Kunin-shutdown line 1
Fiala/Kerfoot/Kaprizov-Scoring line 2
Foligno/Rask/Hartman-shutdown line 2
Donato (or Zucker) as the 13th FWD, or put them in the lineup wherever. They also have Boldy who will need a spot when he's ready (in a year or 2 I'd guess).

Greenway, Kaprizov, Fiala, Kunin, and Donato are the same age/younger as Kapanen. Hartman the a year older. Zucker and Foligno in their primes. They are stuck with past prime Zucc and Parise and their NMCs.

My point wasn't there aren't other options. My point was simply they could use a right handed forward who's a pretty good player depending on how the rest of the team shapes up. I think we can both at least agree that Johnsson brings nothing to the table to make the Wild want to acquire him when they already have a bunch of left handed forwards they need to find playing time for.

You trade players to fill holes in a lineup, not add on to the pile of excess there already is. If MN adds a wing it needs to be a 1st line wing to bump players down in the lineup. Kapanen would bump Hartman down sure, but putting Kunin or Kapanen on the 4th line is a waste. I can't say Kunin is better at center than any of Koivu, Rask, or Donato. If anything it would push Greenway/Kunin to the AHL because they are waivers exempt.

Dude I didn't say this is a good trade. When he says big name he means like Liljegren or a elite prospect. Not a 94 point pace player.
