Have to overpay to get something decent to help their porous defense. Petry is a legit top 3 d-man and would instantly become their second options on the back-end. And he is signed for one more year at a reasonable cap hit. No one is taking Johnsson or Kapanen for a top 4 D.

I'd rather deal directly with Edmonton and give them Nylander for Nurse (but only if he was Right-handed...amirite?)

Right, but you need to move one of JT, AM, MM or Nylander for a top D. Otherwise the team is going nowhere. Nylander isnt going to get you Doughty but maybe Dumba or Nurse.
