He needed to make moves a month ago. It's too late now.
I don't think he's done a bad job. Most contracts are expiring. He can work on building this team up how he wants it now.

Are you really bringing Risto for AA back? There is no way Yzerman trades that pick, he is committed to building through the draft. Yes Risto's value is higher than AA's value but the Detroit's 2020 2nd is worth more to Detroit than Risto is even if it was 1 for 1.

2nd round picks mean nothing in the NHL it's not like the NFL. 25 on is a crapshoot

Ok but that pick is going to be the 32nd pick of the draft and Yzerman isn't going to trade it for Risto. Now Risto's defense has improved from what I've seen but it still needs work. This is from his last interview "At this point it doesn't make sense to trade younger players but we are going to continue to build through the draft and free agency."
