Enough with the Dumba hate, now really look at what Dumba is what he could be, paired with Muzzin that's a formidable pairing in today's NHL with more than just a bit of snarl, I would forget the idea that the Leafs are shopptfor Rielly's partner and are actually shopping for Muzzins partner. We all love Rielly but there is a chance he gets moved in the offseason if for example Dumba is brought in. Gives the Leafs a legit top pairing in
Muzz Dumba
Dermott/new acquisition and Holl
Sandin Lilly

Now that 2nd pairing looks like a really good third pairing and a bottom of the barrel 2nd pairing depending on who or if the new acquisition is

Friedman said the leafs checked in on Dumba, but the leafs have literally checked in on every single RHD in the NHL that might be available. He makes no sense for the team unless the Wild are willing to retain salary and take scraps for him. Checking in on a player does not mean intense interest, it simply means that they checked in. He's an offensive defender that makes 6 million dollars for 4 years and he cant defend . He is literally not needed by the Leafs.

It's not hate, its the realisation that he is a redundant add to the leafs and he makes too much money to be redundant. Seriously, if leaf fans dont like tyson Barrie than they'll hate Dumba too. Just because he throws a hit once every 4 or 5 games doesnt mean he's a significant improvement worth the price of admission

Dumba does have some defensive lapses, but you're right that he would be best used opposite a guy like Muzzin. In Minnesota he had really good defensive partners in Suter and Brodin to help him focus on creating offense.

The biggest issue is his current season. He had a really good 2017/18 and started 2018/19 great before a fluke injury but this season has been a huge step back for a player who looked like he could be a top pairing guy. Not sure what the issue is for him this year, but his career average 8% shooting percentage compared to the 2ish% this year would make a team like Toronto gun-shy about making a deal giving up what Guerin is supposedly asking. I don't see Guerin pulling the trigger on a deal with a lower return just yet because there's no reason to. Dumba is signed long term and it's in the Wild's best interest to wait and hope he regains the form he had. Guerin was patient with Zucker to get what he needed and he'd do the same with Dumba.
