Samberg vs Heinola next year

Created by: Spleenmaster1002
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 28, 2020
Published: Feb. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is a maybe. Without Buff, there’s a bunch of cap space to use on UFAs, but Heinola and Samberg are really close to being ready for the NHL. Heinola proved this year that he has the skills to stick, he’s just not physically ready. Samberg on the other hand is more than physically ready, has the shutdown defense, but may not have the offensive tools immediately to be more than a 25 point scorer. I think at least one of them makes the team, but it probably comes down to what type of player they want in that #6 spot. I think Samberg makes it, and Heinola starts with the Moose. Could easily be the other way around though, and they could both make it and they could also both start on the Moose.

Also this is contingent on Samberg signing, if he doesn’t then we have a whole bunch of other problems.

Vesa and Gustafsson will be fighting for bottom six spots, but I only see room for them if Perreault and Lowry are dealt in trades.

Zary is the pick if we go centre and have a good pick

Heinola will make the team, I'd trade any of Vesalainen, Samberg or Heinola to get Domi though.
They should be trying to move Perreault and Lowry at this TDL, doubt there'd be an takers for Perreault but there would be for Lowry, I'd retain 50% on Perreault and take anything for him.

I really think this trade deadline should be Lowry and kulikov or beaulieu for a change of scenery type player and a pick or prospect. The team needs a pacioritty type return, without an offer like that and leave those young dman alone. Adding hamonic with the thought of trying to sneak him through expansion. Sitting with morrisey pionk and poolman/niku to protect has me wanting to keep samberg and heinola

Of the three he's the one I'd rather not trade, Jets really need a 2C though.

Long term 2C is the problem, short term Wheeler and/or Little are more than capable of playing the position.

Yeah I agree, Wheeler looks pretty tired playing 2C though and who knows what Little will be like when or if he's able to return.

I think 2C is a more pressing concern then the defense is or at least it should be.

I have a feeling Samberg will start in the AHL, I feel this is why they wanted him this year. Of course, he could pull a Heinola in training camp.

on Heinola I'm torn because on the one hand I think he is NHL ready, on the other I wonder if it would be more valuable for him to play top-pairing minutes in the AHL. I think it depends a lot on the RHD situation, if the team can (somehow lol) land a real quality Top-2/3 RHD you can either partner that player with JoMo and reunite Heinola/Pionk or go with 44-4 and then Heinola-New Player.

The absolute craziest thing to me though is that I am completely in agreement that the Jets should bring Bitetto back. If you asked me that in September...

Nah, lots of good D prospects in the system, almost zero center prospects, Wheeler at center isn't sustainable and who knows about Little's future, hopefully he can return to 100% but that's really uncertain at this point.

Big ask for the prospects to jump in and play a big role

All I know is that the Moose LHD next year is going to be stacked. One of if not both of Heinola and Samberg, Stanley is already there and Chisholm and Vallati are going to be signed to ELC as well. This might be Stanley’s last year with the org, sucks that he didn’t pan out but I don’t think anyone is really surprised. Fresh start may be best, could be a throw in for a trade

Also if Potato is the #8 on the team (not like this year where he’s pretty much interchangeable with 6-8), there’s no reason not to bring him back. His NYC mafia leadership/60 is elite.

Happens all the time now, just the way it is in a salary cap league.

Need to bring Beaulieu back, solid 3rd pairing dman,
I've really liked Sbisa's game as well.

Maybe 1 rookie d man but your asking for 2-3 to jump up and be good..
