The irony about Maatta is that right now Defensive Dmen are getting HUGE returns. Look what Greene just got and Maatta's A.) Playing better B.) lower cap hit C.) 3 years left on his deal.

And notice how many are happy with the move? Not to mention that the Sabres don’t have an abundance of cap space either. The OP didn’t look at the other side of the equation for the trade, therefore, no you’ll still not get a top 10 pick for Saad and his 6M contract for 45 points. Just because one bad trade happened doesn’t mean that every GM will likewise make bad decisions. But keep dreaming.

The BUF trade doesn’t work because Saad is signed through next season. So Hawks can’t get the 2020 pick since he’s not eligible. You’d have to make it the 2021 pick.
