the asking price is fine

i'm retaining as much as i can

a colorado avalanche news outlet (Mile High Hockey) said they thought it was a good deal to get Melker at the cost of Toronto's 2020 3rd round pick
https://www.milehighhockey.com/2020/2/2/21118996/the-avalanche-should-make-a-push-for-melker-karlsson-at-the-trade-deadline-rumors

and thornton would go for at least a 3rd, he's a future hall of famer who could fit it in really well as a 3rd line center for Colorado

if you put these 2 together i don't think it's that much of a stretch to get a 2nd round pick

Anything is possible. Plekanec got 2 2nds a couple of years ago and like Joe had nothing left to offer. No way in hell I would ever do it. No value in it. Just pissing away assets. But GMs get desperate and experience is valued. But experience without production is not worth much to me.

Thornton has value, would be better than Colorado's 3rd line center at the moment given Kadri's injury

Obviously Karlsson isn't great at scoring and getting points, but he would be good for Colorado's pk

Not really. He’s playing 15 mins a game, has 2 goals, does not hit anyone, does not kill penalties, under 50% faceoff, slow. Where is the value? Experience and leadership. I’d rather have production. It’s just not there anymore.

Lol, assists are arbitrary. My 53 year old ass could slap on skates for the first time in 25 years, skate around for 15 mins a game and pick up 20 assists by dumb luck alone. And i was a goalie. 2/3 of assists are not earned it’s just the way the scoring rule works. It just means you were one of the last 2 people to touch the puck before it went in.

ok, but if he's 7th all time for assists, ahead of people like Yzerman and Howe he must be doing something right

Are they worth 2nds today?

Who cares. Only thing that matters is what he provides now. That is his worth. And it is not much. Nobody is paying for nostalgia.

When it comes to Jimbo the only parade he should be involved in is the conga-line at the Sandals retirement villa.
Put a fork in it he's done!

Lol says the guy who thinks Pasta is great defensively, Grizz is worth Krug $, Mac is the most important player to the org, and Heinen is a top 6er. LMAO.

Labanc and Heinen are same age, both play soft games, have similar career stats per 82. I’d certainly take Labanc over Heinen, but it’s not by a wide margin.

The fact that your analysis consists of saying both players have "soft games" reduces your credibility to zero.

He has an NMC, he gets to choose.

that's not really the same thing though.
Because he A. might not know the other chances on the table.
B. letting him simply go somewhere with no return vs the team only OK the team that gives them something isn't the same as choosing.
Kind of get what I'm saying here.
This might be his last year, probably should be. They should let him really pick where he goes. Give him what he feels is his best chance. Not based on a return, or whatever. He should have all the power in the decision.
I just think that's the classy way to go about it.

I get what you are saying, but his choices will be limited, he has very little value.

I agree SJ should tell him, here is who has asked about you, where do you want to go and take whatever they are offering even if it’s not the best offer.

Cool. Labanc has 36 hits, Heinen 31. You are right, they are power forwards. 🙄
