Colorado has already retained 50%. Can't be retained anymore

Went to the cba and checked it out, yes a player can be retained 50% twice. Dubnyk is an example. His contract was retained 50% and then retained another 25% afterwards.

No... Oilers sent Dubnyk to Nashville at full $3.5M then Nashville moved Dubnyk to Montreal with retained salary

No they did not, just google the trade. The info on here is just incomplete due to it being older.

"The following day, the Montreal Canadiens acquired Dubnyk for future considerations. They didn’t claim him off waivers because not only did they get him for nothing, they got Nashville to retain 50% of his salary. That’s after Edmonton had already retained 50% of his salary in the Hendricks trade."

google found nothing.. CBC didn't have it. ESPN didn't have it. TSN didn't have it. NHL didn't have it..

as this link points out:
https://www.capfriendly.com/trades/players/devan-dubnyk

he was moved from Edmonton to Nashville at $3.5M..
then he was moved from Nashville to Montreal at $2.575M

that happened in a span of 2 months.. if 1 retention was on there, they'd have the second one

This is correct, I said 25% but it was actually 25% of the original contract. So 50% then 50%

might wanna check the credibility of wherever you pulled that article from. Nashville didn't even retain 50%. They retained 26.5%

No... he was retained 50% both times. I already looked it up in the cba then found an example and remember the trade. I’m not going to do anymore leg work on this. Believe whatever you want.

you just sound like some 15 year old incel who tried to do a calculation from the values on here, but as jamiepo said above that because its an older trade, the values arent recorded. I looked it up and found the article where it said it. you're just some stubborn teen who doesnt know anything and then refers to the CBA section where you think it would be.

Here are the facts of retained salary:

Imaginary player has a cap hit of 4M

Team A trades him at 50% to team B

Team B is then permitted to then trade him to team C at 50%.

He has now been retained on twice and this contract can never have retained salary again.

Result:
Team A: Pays 2M of salary
Team B: Pays 1M of salary
Team C: Pays 1M of salary

Players new cap hit excluding the retained salary portions: $1M (25% of the original value)

thank you banks. I apologize for getting so upset and saying what I said. it is just very frustrating have someone tell you that you're wrong over and over and over...

Now this makes me wonder...

how does the recapture penalty work surrounding a trade to a third destination? Say Weber were to be traded to another team. Does that lessen the blow to Nashville? Does it transfer to MTL?

There could be a place to find this info, but three-way retention are rare and led me down this thought process.

I don't really think we needed Barrie... There were much better options than him...
Thanks for the info on the salary retentions. Good to know for future...
