Why would MIN bite on something like this if they are giving up the better player. They don't benefit in the slightest. This deal would be fair if there was no retention, bcause the Wild would at least get their win in terms of cap.
NYI has interest in Parise because he is the better player now, and is going to help them now. The contract is bad, which is why another bad contract is going back. If you are going to attach 2.5M in salary retention, then you better bet MIN is asking for something pretty big in return, because they are being fleeced in every way - player type, salary, chemistry - otherwise.
How I see it: Every chunk of 500K retention adds about the value of a 2nd. Realistically I think the Isles wanted 1.5M. As such, that's about the value of Bellows and a late pick. 2.5M - you're talking Bellows and a first.
Otherwise, both teams should go their separate ways.
