Agree that MIN needs to retain for this deal to happen. It's gonna cost you more than this though. Add Bellows and a 1st. Swap Hickey with Komarov

I don't think NY has to give Minny any assets as the "value" they gain from this trade is that they will clear those cap dollars faster rather than holding onto to Parise. By the time Minny is ready to contend for the playoffs they will have so much cap room available.

Why would MIN bite on something like this if they are giving up the better player. They don't benefit in the slightest. This deal would be fair if there was no retention, bcause the Wild would at least get their win in terms of cap.

NYI has interest in Parise because he is the better player now, and is going to help them now. The contract is bad, which is why another bad contract is going back. If you are going to attach 2.5M in salary retention, then you better bet MIN is asking for something pretty big in return, because they are being fleeced in every way - player type, salary, chemistry - otherwise.

How I see it: Every chunk of 500K retention adds about the value of a 2nd. Realistically I think the Isles wanted 1.5M. As such, that's about the value of Bellows and a late pick. 2.5M - you're talking Bellows and a first.

Otherwise, both teams should go their separate ways.

bellows, Ladd, komarov and a 2nd for parise (1.75 mill retained) would make sense.

Bellows is a bottom 6 grinder, he isn't anything special. So what you are saying is Minnesota should send a guy who would be 2nd in goals for the Islanders (Parise) with 1.75 in retained money for 5 more years, for a bottom 6 grinder, a 5.5 million dollar cap dump for the next 3 years, Komarov and his 3 million dollar cap hit for 2 more years and a 2nd.

Lets do the math here.

Minnesota adds roughly 11 million in pay roll, for a 2 years, then it drops to 7.25 for a year and then drops to 1.75 for 2 more years. Meanwhile the Islanders get a guy who would be 2nd on their team in goals and saving almost 3 million in cap space at the cost of a nothing prospect in bellows and a 2nd. In what world is that fair?

Lol, this a huge hell no from Minnesota! Yeah, lets just take two awful contracts and guys who can't play worth a lick anymore for a guy who still produces 25-30 goals, even if he is being paid more than he should! Keep dreaming big boy.

Bellows is 21 and hasn't done much in the AHL, and the book is his skating isn't the best. Of course though that means his game will translate in a big way to the NHL. You're a joke.

Good point and the key to this deal was TIMING with chance for NYI to get a playoff run out of Parise right now.

Kapanen was a point a game player in the AHL and is a middle six in the NHL. A guy who couldn't put up points in the AHL isn't exactly going to somehow turn into a better player in the NHL. He's not a good enough skater. He's a B prospect.

You haven’t watched him play once and he has played very well in his games in the NHL this season. His Skating is good, I haven’t heard knocks on his skating in over a year 🤣. You must have just googled an old article from draft day.

Remember when nelson signed this summer for 6 x 6 and you criticized lou for giving him that deal

On pace for 30 G 70 pts this season in a defense 1st system 😂😂😂 - keep hating.

Yeah he’s not the the 30+ goal scorer that he was projected to be when he was drafted. He’ll likely be a 20-20 point producer who provides value on the powerplay with his elite shot.

The Islanders may miss the playoffs, perhaps sitting on your high horse is not wise.

They are 100% making the playoffs. Unlike Toronto , islanders actually have solid goaltending. Freddy looking a little shaky over the last month! 3 + goals is the norm!

Lol, 1000% you'd say any of your defensive prospects in the same position would just need more seasoning because defenceman take longer to progress. Liljegren was an allstar in the AHL this year as a 21 year playing a way harder position than forward. So whats your point?

Your trade idea is a massive win for the Islanders, no fairness once soever, Minnesota takes on 10+ million so they can get a 2nd and Bellows. What a joke.

Sure buddy, say whatever you want. TO is 3rd in their division, can score more than 3 goals a game and will be welcoming Muzzin and Rielly back into the lineup before the playoffs. Meanwhile, the Islanders are really good at losing 3-2 in OT.

Buddy your team got embarrassed against an emergency goaltender lol. You shouldn’t be talking. The leafs should be relegated to the AHL after that performance.

The islanders are finished! Losing 3-2 to the best team in the league just killed their playoffs hopes! 😂 you’re a clown.

If TO would have won that game you 1000% would be saying "your team beat a emergency goalie lol." As I have mentioned many times to you. I honestly would be such a fan of the Islanders if it wasn't for fans like you. Just cocky, fragile, babies who are all high and mighty because you got lucky for a year and a half and counting due to having one of the best coaches in the game behind your bench. Its so fun watching teams that shouldn't be good be good, right up until the fans start literally crying when a player leaves them, and then going out of their way to put down others because of how amazing their team is. You like to chirp the Leafs for being so bad and likely missing the playoffs when they have dealt with a pile of high impact injuries and still are playing better than the Islanders. Don't believe? Check out their last 10 games? Who has the better record? Not enough data? Go look at the Leafs record since Keefe took over and compare it to what the Islanders have done over the same time. In fact, just take away the 10 game winning streak the Islanders went on at the beginning of the season and how have they been the rest of the year?

You sir are the clown, and I can't wait to see your meltdown when you castle made of sand comes crashing down around you. I am sure a lot of JT screwed us, blah blah blah. Just a big whiny baby.

I live for the comments from leafs fans attributing the islanders success to luck 😂 - probably the most satisfying statement because it holds 0 weight and is just an emotional reaction used in discussions.

Lucky for a year and a half , I f*cking love it 😂😂😂😂.
Wow that’s a long time! A couple of nobodies say the islanders shouldn’t be good so when they are good it’s luck! Can’t argue that logic 😂😂😂😂

Leafs fans have been shi*tting on JT for months now. Calling him the worst captain in history, can’t play defense, trade him lmao. I’m just going to sit back and enjoy

Keep living the dream, but as I mentioned, if you take out that 10 game winning streak to start the season, the Islanders have been a middling team the rest of the way. With New York and Carolina chasing you down, making the playoffs is not a sure thing. If you miss the playoffs, you are going to deserve ever bit of shame that you feel.
