Turris is a dump off to offset the Marner salary. Ellis is in the price range Toronto can afford and would warrant the loss of Mitch. NJ is just in here to accelerate the rebuild at minimal cost. Nash needs a shakeup and Toronto needs an Ellis type player. Probably missing a piece on one side but I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of people think Tor is playing too much and some think Nash is paying too much. Which usually means the deal is pretty close.

It's not a matter of value based on talent, it's just that Ellis is almost 30. He is absolutely one of the best Dmen in the league, but as a GM all you can really do is make sure your window to win stays open as long as possible because you never know when your time to win will be. This move might open their window wider, but it will close sooner. For that reason, I think the Leafs say no.

The Devils wouldn't take on Turris' contract even if they were getting the 3rd and 4th round picks. No way are they gonna take on his contract for the next four years. Also, Ellis is nowhere near Marner in value. Marner is younger and better, his only downside is his contract. Leafs and Devils say no to this by a mile.

I can understand the Devils saying no to Turris. Ellis's age on a D man of his style should be of no concern. He has like 7 years of good window minimum and the Leafs wont have that much time at this rate. Marner is better but Right Defense have a huge value increase. The Marner to Ellis comparison is closer than you are giving it credit for and with the contract difference I am very content with that swap. If I have to redo this deal it might be Turris to LA instead and the package a little different but I promise you are sleeping on the Right D relevance.

If I was Toronto I would rather have bonino than sissons and give up the 3rd to Nashville

That seems fine. I like Sissons more than most people but we could swing that other piece.
