Pens lose the trade value wise but ultimately better and have a greater chance to repeat.

I can't stress this enough Malkin isn't the hart winner anymore. He is a good not great 1c and he is getting older. Every year he does more and more of his scoring on the PP and less at 5vs5. That is a horrible trade for the jets. Yes Malkin is the best player in that trade right now but scheifele trouba and ehlers will all be better than maatta and pouliot next year. And yes unlike many I would have no problem providing stats as proof.

Meh, it's the best PIT/WPG trade I've seen thus far, but the Pens are not in a position that they need to shop Malkin. Trouba would be a nice asset if he was signed to a decently cap friendly deal instead of just acquiring the rights. Pens are strapped against the cap, and Malkin to Schiefele is not a big enough salary drop to add Trouba & Ehlers when he is due for a (probably pretty big) contract in 2 years. But from the Pens perspective the value/youth aspect of it is tempting, so I'd say if you throw in a mid round pick in exchange for Fleury to make the $$$ work then I'd do it.

Got to agree with bones20. Even if NTC Malkin would go to Winnipeg, would his heart be in it after playing with the Pens all his NHL career. Maybe he leaves in a year and go to the KHL, leaving the Jets in "Datsyuk" cap situation.

First Malkin isn't worth the value all of you guys are putting on him. Last 2 seasons he had played less games scored less 5vs5 and he has been more and more reliant on the PP for his points.

Malkin is due 67 million over the next 6 years on his contract. at 36 he will get paid 14.5 million. Misses a tonne of games too.
