Crazy Idea that will never happen

Created by: Pens3lieve

Description
Florida has been instructed to cut $10M from their payroll. That reminds me of a certain goalie signed for $10M for 7 yrs. Maybe Bobrovsky goes to Seattle. Anyway Hoffman and Dadonov probably won't be resigned, Stralman and Yandle are getting older, and Huberdeau and Barkov won't be cheap for ever. The Atlantic is top-heavy, but they do have a shot until Toronto gets it together, or another team emerges. But if things go sideways for Florida, would they blow it up and start over?
These trades will never happen and trading their two star forwards on some of the best discount contracts in the NHL isn't in the cards, but I obviously just had a crazy idea.
JJ and Bjugstad are dumped, and Hornqvist is bought out.
We officially have no good picks or prospects left, save PO Joseph, who I kept because he might be ready soon for the #3LHD spot.

I feel like it'd take a great player from our team plus. So for example, instead of giving up 8 pieces to get one player, a package of 3 (with all significant pieces) would be better. That would include Guentzel, Marino, Murray/Jarry, 1st round, and then maybe Poulin, depending on how they see him.

no way pens trade all that for either player. thats insane. Florida may want Jake but the convo stops there.

Guentzel is the best player being traded in this delusional nonsense. The penguins would never do that.

I think Huberdeau is an elite player, I actually rate him higher than Guentzel but there’s not a chance I trade him 1 for 1, let alone that huge package. If the Penguins want to acquire a star winger, it should be Marner of TOR. Here’s trade I made for him that I think is pretty realistic. https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/318651&post_id=1355030

Barkov would be in the 1st line no matter what. he's WAY too good for the 2nd. I'd put Barkov as the RW in the 1st line and put Guentzel in the 2nd line with Malkin

Good idea. Barkov is great defensively so I think centre is the best position for him though. But yes, he is not a second liner. But this will never happen...😉

I would think long and hard before trading Guentzel for Huberdeau 1 for 1, but Florida would never do that. I probably wouldn’t either. Guentzel has proven chemistry while you never know if huberdeau would fit.
Dubas would never trade For Hörnqvist or especially JJ. He’s an analytics geek.

If the pens get a top-6 wing, it needs to be a inexpensive deal, not a huge contract. Sid, Geno, Letang, Guentzel, Dumo, And Rust’s contracts are bargains. There’s just no need to bring in an overpaid player.

Agree Guentzel is the perfect winger for any elite center. Not only his skill level but his work off the puck makes him so easy to play with. That alone makes his value so much higher than most other players. As for Marner, yes he is overpaid, but you can get the Leafs to retain maybe 1.5 million of his salary & his cap hit will be very close to value. The thing is, it should cost significantly less to trade for Marner compared to someone who is inexpensive like Rakell or Huberdeau, cuz the high cap hit is always going to drag his trade value down. That’s why I’ve always been targeting Marner.

I def love Hub's but FLA would never trade him.

Ive been working on a "Rebuild" of Pens since 2011 Draft .... But reasonable picks (only 1st 4 Rounds) and Trades & Non Trades since then .... Been doing it an Hour a day for like 3 days and it is very hard to do but Im a dork so its kind of fun.

My Top 6 is
Guentzel - Sid - Barzal
Forsberg - Geno - Rakell ..... So far, lol

Like players we should have picked, right? There’s a lot of transnational that have missed a lot of talent. 18-year old kids are so hard to judge past the top 3 even.

Your username is MMelite so it’s obvious you like him. Lol 😉😉 the leafs cap situation is already horrible, I doubt they would retain anything. The problem isn’t as much 34/16 as it is 91. Tavares shouldn’t never have been signed. It also set the bar really high for The young players. With Tavares’ 11M, they could have better Forward depth and defense.
Huberdeau would cost way more. Rakell I’m not sure. I think Rakell could be got for a package similar to Zucker.

Agree IMO Tavares is Toronto’s best player, but he was a luxury not a need. They spent all the cap they had & are in crisis now. They could’ve kept Kadri & Brown, also could’ve signed a good defenseman in FA to play with Rielly. If J.T. didn’t sign that 7 year deal, all 3 top players would’ve more likely been willing to take a bridge deal for less AAV.
