Description
Explanation for the VGK trade: the Knights lack a proper top 4 puck moving RD-man. ADA fixes that. Plus Howden is a young, fast forward who could play on their bottom 6 for years to come. Of course I assume here that they'd be fine with Karlsson and Glass (no particular order) as their top 2 center for the long term. Let me know that you guys think about that.

Again...really underselling on Deangelo...I'm not sure why you're underrating your own player.

Would you say a 1st + Kravtsov would be enough to get Theodore from Vegas?

You'd probably say not even close. And you'd be right. But just as right to say this trade is not even close.

Over the past 2 seasons:

Deangelo = 2 pts/60. Theodore = 1.57 pts/60
Deangelo has 83 points in 129 games
Theodore has 83 points in 150 games

Might seem close....

then we look in the details:

Deangelo this year played 55% of Ranger PP minutes. Last year he only played 31.
Theodore this year played 70!% of Vegas PP minutes. Last year he played 48.

Deangelo is a top 10 transition dman in all of hockey. Here's where his offensive output ranks over the last 2 years:

Screen-Shot-2020-04-10-at-2-26-07-PM

Would a 1st + Krebs be enough for anyone on this list?

No it's not. Back to the drawing board.

Theodore is also better than Deangelo so there's that. You're splitting hairs offensively there and Theodore is better defensively and has playoff experience and is also proven to be good in the playoffs

Which part of "Deangelo has 6th best point rate in the league among dmen over the last 2 seasons despite dragging around Marc Staal, the one of the worst offensive dmen in all of hockey" feels like splitting hairs?

Vegas is getting fleeced here, no way they do this. Sure Stastny only has 1 year left but he is still an effective top 6 center and Glass was injured all year so hes not top 6 ready. Krebs is a fantastic prospect and his value isnt that far off of DeAngelo by himself. Then you want them to add a 1st.

Theodore is better than DeAngelo? On what planet?? As it is, the author is completely out to lunch; but you, Dude, are not even at the table.

I'm impartial on the teams, I actually like the rangers better, but if I could add one of Deangelo and Theodore to the leafs, I'm taking Theodore all day long

so are Brent burns and EK now considered elite? Better than hedman? Is Rielly now the second best dman in the league? No, you can't evaluate a player on one stat. Being a defenseman is so much more than the offensive side of the puck

...all of these players are elite. That's the point. I'm not sure how you're missing the entire point... These are the top offensive dmen in the league.

I mean if you want to factor in defense to get an overall picture of the player that's cool, here are the top 5 in goal differential/60 over the last 2 years, adjusted for score and competition and zone starts if you think that's all important.

1. Morgan Rielly
2, Victor Hedman
3. Tony Deangelo!!!!!!!
4. John Carlson
5. Mark Giordano

I love Morgan rielly, my favourite defensemen in the league, but he's not a top 5 defenceman. Nor is Deangelo a top 10. I agree that Deangelo is a high level player, but Theodore is moreso in my opinion. Advanced stats don't tell the whole story. Gardiner always had high point totals, good differentials and possession metrics as a leaf, but he wasn't nearly what stats might have portrayed him as (NOT calling Deangelo Gardiner, I know he's better than that)

I haven't had any opinions here. I've only shown stats. And I haven't even shown really any analytics. Only Points and Goals. Those aren't cherry picked, those are box score numbers. The most basic of basic. I can show the analytics if you want but it seems like you don't care for the numbers. The only thing you've shown here is your opinion, and what's happening on the ice is not the same as what's happening in your head.
