I feel like in a scenario where CBOs do come back ANA would be one of the teams that take another teams bad contract in order to get assets to buy out (if that is allowed of course)

I dont see CBOs making a comeback though

I feel like that'd be the smart move do you think the owner would be willing to take dead cap? That was my only concern.

That’s a reasonable concern for sure, not sure if he would take a huge deal but a team trying to get out of a deal around the Backes cap hit would make sense to me, maybe even swap Kesler to a team that can afford the money but not the cap hit and the Ducks get a minor asset back maybe

You have to remember that a "compliance buyout" doesn't wipe out a contract with an effortless stroke of the pen -- the team buying out the player still has to pay his salary according to the terms of the contract. That's why all those current posts fantasizing some team taking Bobrowsky off Florida's hands for a first or even Aaron Ekblad are so idiotic -- does anyone in his right mind think that a first-round draft pick or even one of Florida's best players is worth the obligation to pay $58.5 million to a guy for watching tv? That kind of money can buy you a pretty nice house here in Beverly Hills, you know.

That being said, I can see Anaheim taking on a one-year hit as they did with Backes.
