Description
Trade Rationales:

LAK: receive a real nice player in Kerfoot who is only 2 years older than Kempe but also receive two good prospects in Bracco and SDA... Especially Bracco who can make a name for himself in a team with more potential for him to play. LA also moves only slightly backward in the draft while adding two prospects to do it.

OTT: I like Johnsson but our backs are up against the wall and his value is relativley low given his cap hit, injuries, and position (winger)... Everyone knows Melnyk is financially limited with his organization so taking on cap like Gaborik helps the books for OTT and Brooks has a legitamite shot at making the NHL and looked like a solid player who again would not get much opportunity in TOR...OTT might not be as inclined to give up the 3rd but considering they already have 4 2nd round picks and 2 thirds they would accept given they get Brooks who essentially replaces the third rounder and Johnsson is still a good player who should fetch a 3rd rounder when healthy --> also gives them more draft equity at the back at the draft with 2 7th rounders when before they had 0.

Also: I have no idea what Marleau plans on doing I know his family likes being in San Jose but maybe a 1 year deal for him where he can play in and out of the line up and add leadership would be a good thing. Also very close with Marner and Matthews.

Folks should start blaming the Leafs for Bracco not playing in the NHL....He just isn't NHL good enough. If Clifford wants three years, 800,000 should be enough and most of that time should be with the Marlies.

Fair point - I think its a little bit different because Coleman was a rental for a stanley cup contending team and a deadline deal... But I feel like Kerfoot and Kempe are fairly close in value... Kerfoot is only a couple years older and at Kempe's age outperformed him in COL its just more of a cap thing for TOR... plus I think Bracco and SDA combine to have a better value (in my opinion) than a late first from a team like TBL.

Simply to help OTT... The two teams have a good relationship and MLSE is a powerhouse financially and can easily absorb his cap for a year... his career is done. In return TOR fills out their picks by adding a 3rd back and OTT helps us by taking Johnsson's cap hit

I can guarantee there is a 0% chance Clifford gets less than $1M anywhere he goes

I get that. and actually kempes value according to fantasysp is way less than i thought it was. Surprising since I thought he would be valued higher as that production with that contract would be a steal

Also I think it is a little unfair to write the book off on Bracco. The kid has suffered with some personal troubles and I think a change for him could kick start his career. His numbers in the AHL at his age were fantastic

His contribution to the Leafs was minimal. Lots of 4th/5th liners are available.

As a leaf fan I think LA should not take trade.

Kings are very high on Kempe and consider him to be one of the key pieces of the rebuild. He's not being traded unless there is considerable value coming back (1st round pick +). This package wouldn't get it done. I would look elsewhere.

I personally think Kerfoot is highly underrated by Leaf fans and maybe an adjustment to the trade adding picks but I really do not think there is much separation between the two players as people think

I'm not saying there is or isn't. Just that the Kings love Kempe and wouldn't consider moving him unless someone overpays. Not to mention that he's one of the few LWs on the Kings and the Kings have an overabundance of centers in the pipeline.

Why sign Marleau just to scratch him? Word around here is he has a contract already to come back to San Jose in the off season to end his career a shark.
