It’s entirely possible. Losing pietrangelo is a huge sting. They went from having one of the best Defence lineups in the NHL to a pretty average D core

He’s still not at Peiterangelos level. Plus wouldn’t you rather have both? The Faulk signing was dumb. That was a huge sign that pietrangelo may be out the door

The trade itself was agreeably unnecessary, should have just paid the captain

It's looking more and more likely that the Faulk trade/signing was to prepare for Petro to eventually leave. Blues have painted themselves into a corner for sure. Nothing is for sure until it's official, but it'll be a struggle to keep Petro unless he takes a hell of a discount and the Blues are able to unload Allen/Bozak. Keep in mind, they still have to resign Dunn.

Exactly would love Petro in Detroit. But don't see him signing there. I'd easily offer him 7 x 10 he's that good.

I mean... if they win first overall... I wouldn’t rule it out. Detroit would have a plethora of young forwards in:
Laf, Larkin, Martha, Zadina, Bertuzzi, velano (when he comes up) etc...
Plus Hronek, seider, McIssac, etc on D.
If Detroit wins first overall and SIGNS peiterangelo they may turn this thing around very quick

Exactly if we get the #1 pick and get LAFF sign Pietrangelo and sign one of Holtby or Lehner Detroit becomes a much better team and accelerates their rebuild. I mean it's possible and they can definitely give him the most money if that's what he's seeking.

And none of that screams a guaranteed turn of events. Sign a high profile starting goalie to a big contract, how is that looking for Florida? Hope your 1st overall pick speeds up the rebuild and is your franchise savior, hows that working out for the Devils? Lots of hopes and dreams in that post. While anything is possible, let's come back down to earth. Holtby is barely able to stay afloat with a super talented club in Washington, that's your solution in Detroit?

They could also make an offer on a young backup goalie. I could see Detroit trading for Jarry. I still think pens are gonna role with Murray as their ride or die goalie

I gotcha, makes sense now.
While it would be admirable of Steen to retire or waive his NTC to help the team, I can't see him doing that. He's making great money, he's on a winning team, and is beloved by fans. Why waive that to potentially spend your twilight years on a losing club? no tie to the city and fans (unless it's Winnipeg). He's going to be able to retire and end his career the way he wants, which few players get to enjoy. Would I love to see his contract off the books? Yes. Yes a 100 times but I can't see it happening. But 100% agree on Bozak/Allen gone.
