Pietrangelo to Dallas

Created by: OldNYIfan
Team: 2020-21 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 17, 2020
Published: Apr. 17, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Following up on the latest popular theory.

The expiration of the contracts of Comeau, Johns and Oleksiak will provide for almost all of the approximately $7.1 million likely necessary to resign Heiskanen in 2021. Adding Pietrangelo would probably impel a trade of Klingberg or Lindell during the season to avoid having to expose him in the expansion draft, which would provide additional cap space.

Colorado has the cap space to use a veteran depth forward like Andrew Cogliano to replace Colin Wilson.

Note that this roster still stays below the $81.5 million cap without any compliance buyout if Faksa takes $3.2 million, Hintz $2.75 million and Gurianov $2.5 million. I think that the two younger players might take bridge dals once they see management sign Pietrangelo.

Better option is Barrie. He'll be cheaper and can create more offence from the back end. He might take even less to play with his good buddy Jamie Benn. I highly doubt Pietrangelo goes to Dallas and highly doubt he gets anything over $9M

If there's one thing Dallas is famously short on and needs to address, it's defense. Good thing they're so high powered up front at least.

If he only wanted $9 million in St Louis, I think they would believe that they could re-sign him and would have held off on Scandella. However, that figure is a little more likely in Texas, Florida or Nevada. I just used the outside figure as a budgetary limit, to see what that did to the RFA signings.

I think that Dallas makes more sense than most teams, especially those in the upper half of the salary table. And some of the teams at the bottom of the salary table are too distant from playoff contention that I don't think Pietrangelo would be interested. That's why, sadly, I don't think that my SoCal teams are in the running for him, despite their ability to pay an over-market price for his services.

he's not gonna get close to $10M because of the cap issues that most teams are gonna have. With the cap highly unlikely to increase and most teams already in cap trouble, teams won't be able to afford and won't wanna pay a 30 year old d-man $10M. It has nothing to due with his ability, it's the economical issue that will stop him and a lot of players from getting what they coulda got if things were normal

What kind of Benedict Arnold mf would petro be if he walked away from the captaincy and signed with a division rival that is captained by the guy who has made a habit of trying to humiliate him?

If that's true, what's wrong with my construction?

I didn't say the construction was wrong. I said he won't get that much. & he's a better fit elsewhere. Dallas can add a lesser guy like Barrie and he'll make just as much of an impact and for cheaper.

I actually like this scenario. Although I don’t know how I’d feel about trading one of Klingberg or Lindell when the expansion draft rolls around just to replace them with Tyson Barrie. Now if we replaced one of them with Alex Pietrangelo then I think we got something.
