I agree that NJD would be helped greatly by signing a good veteran UFA on defense and at wing or center. I could also see Fredrik Clarsson on the roster and playing very well. Always liked his game when he played for the Rangers and I believe he's the type of D-man that's historically played well for NJD. Also he was included in the Vananen trade even though he's going to be a UFA at seasons end. Which makes me believe that Claesson was traded for in order to possibly resign.

I doubt Claesson stays, at the time of the Vatanen trade Greene was traded already, they were trading Vatanen, and I believe at that point Butcher may have already been injured; so the only LHD-man they had was Mueller.

I think the Devils might resign Mueller/ Mermis, keep Butcher, and see if either Smith/ Bahl can crack the lineup out of camp and move who ever gets dropped out of the lineup.
