Dont CBO Price and Weber

Description
Although it is tempting to CBO Price and Weber, it doesn't make sense to lose them because you can't resign them. Even though Price's contract is HUGE, I still believe he is a top 5-10 goalie just based on his smarts and positioning. He didn't have an amazing season this year but still had a .909 save %. He is only a couple years past his crazy year where he carried the team and had one of the great season by a goaltender in the modern era, let alone all-time (44W, 1.96 GAA, .933% SAV). Cayden Primeau is not quite ready to take over the net and I do think he'll need a couple more seasons to become a full-time starter. Even if it means he plays behind Price for a season or two, it's not the worst thing that could happen to him. Also, last time we traded our franchise goaltender, how did that end? (just a joke)

As for Weber, I never really understood why we would CBO him. He just put up some of his best numbers and was probably the best player on the team this year. Also, his game doesn't really take a toll on his body as much as a player such as Gally. He is so intimidating on the ice that nobody goes after him.

The obvious choice in my eyes is Alzner. Do I even need to explain?

Also, peep the lineup if we don't make any moves.

Getting rid of either would be the white flag going up in MTL and Bergy would have to move on from the core entirely so absolutely no way he does it nor does it make any sense.

Alzners contract off the books and a flat cap would quickly become MTLs greatest advantage heading into the offseason (or at least whatever time gap there is between seasons). But even without using it I like this lineup. Still a lineup that needs some young players to develop and take step forwards in order to make a wild card spot but would be competitive

I don't want Weber to get CBO'd just on the very off chance he ever decides to retire, and absolutely **** the Preds with cap recapture

Price is still an excellent goalie. The D in front of him needs to get it together I’d say. He certainly isn’t the top goalie in the league but he’s still damn good.

Montreal is one of the few team teams in the league that doesn't have CBO anyone. Now if they made a big UFA they might...but till then don't worry about.
Yea you could CBO Price but what is the cap of getting a new premier goalie?

Lol Price and Weber will not be bought out. Any suggestion comes from people who think they can predict the future.

Montreal is very unique and fans of other teams don't quite understand the Habs situation. They look at the roster and project their cities circumstance on it, because that's what they know and most teams are similar that way. It really doesn't work completely the same way in Montreal.

Montreal has never been and will never be the premier destination for UFAs. Language, taxes, weather, fan pressure, etc etc etc. Grooming your own talent takes years and to make matters worse, Habs haven't been great at developing talent neither. Simply put, Habs have a hard time reaching the cap ceiling, even they wanted to. The only time they ever came close was when they knew they had a good team and wanted to add some good players through free agency and completely overpaid to ensure they could get the players.

The Habs will never get to a point where they'll not be able to afford a player they want because they have no cap space due to guys like Weber and Price costing too much. If it was New York or Dallas or San Jose or something, that's a different story but for Montreal the odds are incredibly low of that being the case.

Not to mention that there are a plethora of ways of deal with big contracts, nearing the end of their term like Price and Webers. If ever the Habs desperately need cap space fast for X reasons, they'll deal with it at that time. Its important to make the distinction between being overpaid and being a "cap dump". Price and Weber are simply overpaid but they are still good players.

If the Habs CBO Price and Weber, they'll be out of their top dman and their #1 goalie. That's not what CBO's are for. They're for the players with big contracts that no longer have a place on the team. We're not talking about guys like Lucic or Ericksson or Ladd etc where the teams would rather just not have those players on the team anymore if they had a choice, regardless of cap hit.

So no one has to worry about Price and Weber's contracts when they are in their late 30's....... they won't hinder the Habs from being a better team than they'd be without them. If ever it gets to the point where Price is not even good enough to be backup goalie and Weber can't even skate anymore and the Habs need cap space, they'll figure it out.

CBO'ing both of them now would be like giving away your 3 year old car because in 10 years the car will be scrap...... deal with the scrap yard when the car is compete scrap. Not when its still running perfectly and looks good but has a couple bumps and scratches.

Weber only has 3 years left until his actual salary is only $1M per season. Buying him out would be a terrible decision, anyone suggesting they buy him out doesn't know how contracts work.
