Levio probably might not want to come back but I always liked him. Maybe a better fit with Keefe behind the bench.

I think that Domi trade is pretty fair, but I don't see why MB would trade Domi to a same division team.

I'd be 100% happy if Dubas was able to pull off these moves

Given where Ottawa's LD side is, I don't think I'd give a 2nd for Dermott, and I'd rather have Abramov than Bracco. Bracco is a perimeter player, and Abramov isn't afraid to go to the net, or battle down low.

I think Dermott would be an upgrade over Mike Rielly, could take his spot. IMO

Take out Johnsson. I love Domi but he’s not as good as Nylander.

Mike Reilly is the 7th D. Sens left side next year is Chabot and either Wolanin-Brannstrom or Wolanin-Borowiecki. If it's Branny, I'd go with the young blue chip prospect over Dermott, if it's Boro, I think Borowiecki brings more to the table defensively.

Cool, that makes sense. I have to think they will trade 1 or two of the picks for current roster players. Whoever that might be.

Juulsen has been unable to play hockey due to injury for a while. We have no idea right now if he'll ever be capable in the NHL, let alone in the top 4. Domi is a worse player than Nylander. You are trading one player for somebody worse, and another player (I understand the cap reasons) for someone who may never return to the NHL in a non-bottom pair capacity.

I understand the appeal of Manson, but outside of one season, he doesn't get any points. If all we need is a guy to play defense with Muzzin, Holl already makes that pair work well. Physicality is nice, but trading for a guy just because he hits more while doubling the cap hit, and sacrificing a 2nd round pick and a 20 year old prospect seems like a bad trade. Rowney is the kind of guy you can get easily in FA.

I quite like Abramov, and if you assume Sandin makes the roster, and there's a cheap defense signing available like Tim Heed, i get the trade, even if it does seem expensive considering NHL experience at this point.

I love the idea of bringing back Leivo, but no idea what the cap hit would be. He's been on pace for 35-45 points both seasons in the Middle 6 with Vancouver, which is more than 1.3M by a good amount, but he also has had injuries.

Overall, If you want to ship off Johnsson/Dermott for cap help, and supplement another RD, I get it, but why would we get rid of Willy for Domi, and Juulsen is in no way a better prospect than Liljegren right now. If you were set on Manson (who has had his price vaulted exponentially by media like Dreger), you could try Johnsson, Holl, Dermott in some form of package, which stillseems insane. Then the forwards are the same but you keep Willy, and you still have Manson but you have Liljegren instead of Juulsen.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/canadiens-noah-juulsen-feeling-really-good-ready-resume-nhl-career/ (based of this, he is back healthy. But, yes there is risk)

https://www.hockey-reference.com/play-index/pcomp_finder.cgi?request=1&match=1&player1_hint=Max+Domi&player1_select=Max+Domi&player1=domima01&idx=players&player2_hint=William+Nylander&player2_select=William+Nylander&player2=nylanwi01&idx=players

I'm guessing when you say Domi is a worse player than Nylander, that's just your opinion. Which is cool, we are entitled to our own, but the numbers would suggest otherwise. Even more so when Nylander has played almost he's entire career when Matthews. Yes, Nylander held out and missed time, but I like the toughness and skill Domi adds and he has never played with anyone that talented. Agree the Manson deal doesn't need to happen. Just like the player. Appreciate the feedback.

Actually, I would say the numbers point out Nylander being a significantly better player. His play-driving ability is elite. His biggest weakness is his inability to convert on the chances he creates at a high level, but for the first time in his career, he was converting at an expected rate and it was putting him on pace for 35+ goals. This is not meant to disparage Domi, but he had his career season last year for 75 points when Nylander had the holdout/awful season. This year he had 44 points in 71 games. Domi has only cracked 60 points the one time, which Nylander did his rookie and sophomore season, and was only 1 point away from doing this year before the season was suspended.

For example, as seen here https://hockeyviz.com/player/domixma95/MTL/1920 Domi has positive effects offensively with neutral defensive impacts, but thats actually worse both offensively and defensively than montreal without him on the ice. On the other hand, he is a good PP player. Willy was a negative on defense https://hockeyviz.com/player/nylanwi96/TOR/1920 but only 1% worse than the team average, while he impacted offense an insane amount.

Willy's defensive zone play has always left something to be desired, but his neutral zone play, both in driving the puck up the ice, and in disrupting the opposition to take pucks away, is arguably the most elite part of his game. The fact that he led the NHL in shots from the slot this year, and tied for the lead in goals from there is just showing his dominance around the ice. Yes, he has elite linemates that Domi has never had, and domi does bring that agitator game that willy doesn't, but we know for a fact that Willy works very well in tandem with Matthews, and seems to be a great fit next to Tavares. Domi likely would too, but I'd rather keep the guy who's specialty is zone transition and slot shots despite being a playmaker, rather than get a guy who is shown in the analytics to be worse because of the agitator element.

I acknowledge what you shared with hockeyref's point shares, but the thing about point share is that it assumes equal amounts of goals and talent. Some players are better shooters, it results in your team scoring more, and some drive the net more like Willy has shown to do. Also, it shows offensive/defensive impact, but and I don't claim to know what goes into that model, but as Willy is one of the best transition players in the NHL, and the best one that the Leafs have (marner is 2nd on the team in that regard, also elite), i wouldn't get rid of that.

In the end, I understand why you want to move Willy for Domi, the agitator element is useful, and he brings an element of bite that our top six has lacked without kadri; I just wouldn't make the trade myself.

Don't see Montreal making that trade. Nylander is a tad bit overpaid and I think they could get Domi on a better contract than him. Domi also brings some grit, something we are lacking.
