Not a bad idea, but risky. I see a buyout on horizon for Hossa contract, that would be the best option for the Hawks. He is 37 with 5 years left. Maybe Arizona would take him once the Datsyuk anchor is cut free next year?

For the last 4 years of the deal it's 1 million a year real money (he's currently owed 8 million over the next 5 years). Any team on a budget might take a chance on it. If Hossa is willing.

At least the Hawks won 3 Cups in the past 7 years. So being in cap hell has had its rewards, unlike most teams.

Agree with both of your posts. Like dirt face said, it would all be up to Hoss should he accept a trade to a budget team. Otherwise, as has been noted, the Hawks would be liable for cap recapture if Hossa were to call it quits even from another team.

TBH in hindsight and I have stated this numerous times, using one of the 2 compliance buyouts on Hossa a couple of years ago would have been the prudent thing to do. By keeping MH, as great as a Hawk as he has been, has cost the team dearly in losses of young, top talent. We fans are certainly all grateful for the 3 Cups that Hossa has been a very significant part of. Hopefully, the run is still viable!
