the deal is where the leafs cbo jones we aint keeping him

getting 2 3rd round picks, a defensive LW who can play with Tavares, and a meh prospect to play for the marlies all for injury prone johnsson I would take that. All the deal requires is the league granting CBO's to teams.

What a deal for Karlsson. Earns 80 mil for playing one year, 56 games, for San Jose...

I know we wouldn't keep Jones, that's the point. He is heavy negative value in this deal. I often see these Sorensen + 3rd for Johnsson trades, and while I'm not a huge fan of that, let's just use that as a base line here. So take those pieces out of the equation and you're left with Jones + Chekhovich + 3rd. Chekovich adds absolutely nothing for me and I'm not taking Jones' contract off their hands for a 3rd.

Obviously you wouldn't want to help us for free, but your getting some decent stuff in this deal. A 3rd is always good, and Chekovich is a decent prospect with a lot of potential. He came into the season looking like he was one of our best forwards but didn't do great in the AHL in his first professional season. He's probably going to turn into a middle 6 forward, but if he got back on track again and had a bounce back season, he could start looking like a potential top 6 forward again. And what better way to bounce back then with a change of scenery.

I just don't see it. Even with owners being as rich as they are, imagine asking to spend 14ish million of their dollars for 2 assets that will likely never make any meaningful contribution to the team. Just not enough to take 4 years of a bad contract off a teams hands.

DW is not going to CBO Erik Karlsson, sorry. I've been seeing a lot of ACGMs CBOing him, and that is never going to happen. Ik this is just for fun, but that's ridiculous. He's going to get 9+ elsewhere, he won't just play for the minimum once CBOd

But don’t you think this team has a very good chance at winning it all?

Yes, they would be. The Leafs would be taking the Sharks bad contract and then spending $14m to get rid of it.

Yeah but it doesn't count for your teams cap

What does it matter? They would be essentially handing the Sharks $5.75m in cap space for the next 4 years and spending millions of dollars to do it.

What do you mean ''what does it matter?'' it's a big difference if it goes against the cap then if it doesn't. These owners have a lot of money. They're already spending over 80 million on players, what's 5.75 more?

To the Sharks, it does not matter whether Jones counts against the Leafs cap. Their side of the deal is asking/paying for another team to take a contract off of their cap/payroll. How the team that takes the contract (in this case the Leafs) is going to deal with it is irrelevant to the Sharks. They are paying for the same thing whether the Leafs buyout Jones or not.
