No way the jets do that. Maata is a cap dump so treat him as such.

He isn’t though. He’s played very well this season in a bottom-4 role. He and Koekkoek have arguably been the Hawks best d-pair all season (low bar, but still relevant). Very solid option if paired with a good partner, which I think Winnipeg could provide with either Demelo or Pionk.

Don’t think we can get a 2nd for Maatta. Either way, I do think those are the guys out the door. I don’t think all 3 of Boqvist, Mitchell, and Beaudin will be in the lineup over Seabrook. Too much inexperience back there.

But you don’t pay over 4M for 3rd pairing which drops his value. I’m not saying you have to give up something to move him but you definitely won’t be getting a 2nd back. In fact, I don’t even thing you will get the 4th you have up for him back

If I’m WPG or any other team for that matter, I’m not taking that contract without an incentive

Jets paid their 3rd pairing over $9M combined a couple seasons ago, the Jets could potentially see Maata as a second pair partner for Pionk, a 3rd is the most they should give for him though.

If he had 1 year I would take it but he has 2 and I don’t think the jets should make that commitment. They have samberg, heinola, and niku who shoudl all be regulars by then. Add in one of gawanke, Chisholm, or Stanley and it’s way too crowded. A one year rental sure, but not more

I hear ya but that wasn't what we were debating, having an expensive 3rd pair dman isn't that uncommon was my point.

Really can't see them going with that young of a defense even if they're all capable, the Jets organization is just too risk averse to do that, even after Samberg or Heinola have a year of experience I doubt the Jets would go with that many young/inexperienced dmen in the lineup, they've never been an organization that gives too many young players a chance all at once.
