Description
i have to say it, even tho i was routing for MO to be captain, maybe there is a reason why we cant find a partner for Rielly....cuz hes not that good defensively and we blame it on his partners.

With our cap situation its better to keep a Dermott and trade a Rielly

its better than trading a nylander or marner to find a Dman

Actually Reilly is rather solid defending, but it's not his bread and butter. Hainsey was perfect for him - and those sorta of D are around, if not with the team (time will tell).

But the Calgary deal..... yikes. Treveling would have ti be drunk to accept that. Dubé is gonna be gooooood.

"maybe there is a reason why we cant find a partner for Rielly....cuz hes not that good defensively and we blame it on his partners." Absolutely correct.
For the first 8 games last season, Reilly was the worse Leaf Dman due to offensive recklessness an defensive liabilities. When the Leafs have the puck, Reilly is good/very good, but when the Leafs don't have the puck Reilly is average at best. Due to his skating ability and fine play on the PP, Reilly has avoided almost all criticism for his overall play.

That Rielly trade is tempting. The Leafs would never do it though.

No chance the Flames agree to this. None.

We've given Rielly an 80 yo, a dman that panics under pressure (Zaitsev), Ceci (do I need to explain), and Barrie who couldn't fit in with Muzzin, and obviously is weak defensively so not a great idea for a pairing anyways. All while up until 20 games into this season playing against top comp.

Not really sure blaming Rielly makes a whole lot of sense.

Rielly/Hainsey actually made a decent pairing until the playoffs when Bos just dumps the puck into Hainsey and waits for him to mishandle the puck.

Rielly is far from perfect, but think you are really reaching here.

All that being said I'd do that trade, just don't agree with your logic.
