The thing is that i love carlson but he isn't the type of defenseman we need. He has great offensive upside but struggles in his own end

If the Caps added both Marner and Pietrangelo, You can kiss goodbye Ovechkin next summer. More then likely a flat cap for 2021/2022 Caps wont be able to afford Ovie then.

Ovi likely isn't gonna get that much of a pay raise, he already gets 10 mil per year. It's a very slight increase for Ovi, it's achievable by letting Orlov go and signing a cheaper top 4 D man. It's really not as difficult as you expect.

Thats what I hate about most ACGM's who trade Marner. They forget age is a thing.

I don't think Washington really needs that. Carlson is most likely going to win the Norris on a good deal. Keep what you have. Piet Carlson is kinda nasty tho. I'd be terrified as a Habs fan.

Ovi probably signs for around $8M. Plus can shed some salaries like Panik and Jensen if needed. But this is all unrealistic fun so whatevs.

Orlov would be the last dman to go, he's our best. But can shed Panik, Jensen, and wouldn't be surprised to see Oshie taken by Seattle.

Get an elite top pairing RHD AND save $2M+? I could see them considering. Caps wouldn't do Vrana+Wilson+1st. No one would do anything close to that value for Marner.

Super hard no from the Caps there. Vrana and Wilson are the future top wingers for the Caps, centered by McJesus 2.0.
