Dumping Salary and adding top 4 RHD

Created by: GFD1996
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: May 14, 2020
Published: May 16, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Rationale: Anaheim deal to move Kerfoot is cap related but also I think Adam Brooks has a really good shot at being the third line C in a couple of seasons and Spezza is a great short term plan until then.

PIT deal: Jarry had one good year and is still highly unproven and they get a bonafide #1 - TOR gets a solid goalie and a couple of depth pieces and dump Johnsson's contract

They are trying to only have one starter not 2.
That is why they want to trade a goalie.
Jarry is ready to be a starter and obviously murray is as well

As a leafs fan I would prefer to have Jarry
He would demand less of a cap hit

" TOR gets a solid goalie and a couple of depth pieces and dump Johnsson's contract"

1. Toronto already has a solid goalie.
2. Huge over pay for Manson. (Another ACGM with RHD envy!)

Freddy Andersen has one season left, and will be 32 when his next contract starts. He's going to look for term on his next contract, and he's not getting re-signed by Toronto. They need a replacement.

1. Literally what Claesson4Norris said
2. That's a common price you will see for a top 4 RHD... Liljegren and Kerfoot are the main pieces, Bracco will not crack the Leafs lineup with all the depth and Holl for a 3rd,

I can see the appeal for Jarry but he has such limited experience... he hasn't even started half a season let alone a full one... I think it's fair to assume some regression and the Pens use him as trade bait too with Andersen as starter and DeSmith as back up they can add really good pieces by dangling Jarry especially because they are always in a win-now phase

Im sure he would have no problem signing a 3-4yr 6m contract after next year. Mean time hopefully one of Wall or Scott develops into an NHL goalie. If he doesnt sign for some reason we can look at a trade or UFA next summer.

Nah, we need consistency, neither Jarry or Murray can really be trusted as a number 1 rn, if we trade Murray (or Jarry) and get Freddy (or another proven G, maybe Markstrom) and Jarry (or Murray) ends up sucking it's no where near as bad as if we didn't get a different goalie and fully trusted whoever we keep, and if we make the right choice an whoever we keep is good, well we had a great safety plan, and now they can go off to Seattle

If he bounces back from his bad season this year, he's going to want 5-6 years. If his poor play continues you can't even consider signing him.

Getting a Guy like Murray fits way better with the age of the team.

Murry had a "bad" season too.... yes he does fit age wise but will probably cost 5m+ to sign. Dont see the need to rush into something just yet, looks like we have a decent back up now. Goalies are hard to judge.

This whole cite is about hypothetical trades lol... its about determining whether or not you can create fair scenarios not whether or not they will happen
