@DirtyDangle you just made this abomination of a trade but you say that timmins and a 1st for domi signed at 6 mill is a straight up no?

Colorado isnt looking for a goalie, they need 1 top 6 winger... even then they could do nothing and still be a contender, MTL isnt a contender

the teams in front of them were anything but equal. price is the better goalie, don't be a homer.

domi at 6mil is a no by itself. you want to add 1st and timmins for that?

It's tempting, but not quite there.

This trade breaks down as:

- Grubauer = 2 2nds .... if not more. He was acquired for a 2nd + orpik cap dump (effectively a 2nd), and his value has only gone up by being a starter for 2 years.
- Zadorov = 2nd + 3rd
- Picks 2nd + 3rd

So we'd effectively be trading 4 2nd's and 2 3rd's for a goalie paid $5.25m signed for another 6 years and with his best years behind him who's only going get worse.

It's a much better offer than the usual Price-to-Colorado suggestions though. And honestly it's a tiny bit tempting as Price at his best is a really good goalie. I just don't know if the change would be worth the risk for Colorado though as our goalie situation is pretty solid and we also have Annunen in the pipeline who looks really promising.

From Montreal's perspective, retaining $5.25m for 6 years would be a really bad look for them, so I doubt they sanction that.

grubauer is a sunk cost, don't factor the picks it cost to acquire him in a new deal. grubauer is good goalie but only plays 35 games a year. injuries are a concern.

The cost to acquire him can be used as a barometer for what goalies typically cost. Grubauer would have played more if he had been on a different team. He's been the starter in a 1A/1B combo with Varlamov and Francouz.

Avs get one of the best goalies in the league for 5M for 6 years for a dman they're gonna trade anyways, their current goalie and a couple picks? Sounds like an unreal deal to me

No, price was the better goalie.. hes 32, 6 years left on the largest goalie contract in the league that he did earn.. however his stock is going down, where grubauers is on the rise

Colorado does not need a goalie upgrade or otherwise, why would you sink assets into someone who has already played their best hockey

Also the avs were so injured this year you cant say that they had a better team in front of grubauer or francouz

It would be an unreal deal if that were true and he wasn't 33 to start next season. There was also a first included in the deal, but it has been changed.

Yeah I wouldnt pay a 1st but the deal currently shown makes a lot of sense. Great goalies don't really see a decline until their late 30s so they would have an elite goalie at 5M for the next 4-5 years.

He's already declined. Doesn't make sense for the Av's to make this trade when they already have two cheaper, younger goalies who are posting superior numbers.
