I think that ship has sailed.

With his contract and recent injury history and age, good luck.

Crazy part is all those factors were known before the sens originally traded him. Everyone knew he'd want a huge deal, he already got injured, and nobody gets younger. Could be a great trade by ottawa if 1 of those picks or prospects hits.

Sens aren't even going to consider this. Love Karl, but this makes no sense.

I wonder if Wilson figured he would have a cup and go hide as president and someone else to fix this mess, or what he was thinking? I think if I was potential gm candidate this would be the last on the list

1 thing to have this sorta mess after a few cups, totally another when your squad is missing the playoffs, how do some of these guys earn or make these contracts look good.

Just to clarify, I’m a Sens fan so I posted this with my own bias... I think Karlsson is still a top 10 defenceman in the NHL and Ottawa would be robbing SJ blind in this trade.

Sure, Karlsson has had a lot of injury problems and that can’t be ignored but when healthy he was the best player on the Sharks.

I just can’t see how he can succeed in SJ with that contract and where the team is heading. He and his family live Ottawa as a city and are in fact here now. I think him ‘coming home’ would be a reset for him and the Ottawa fans too. Coupled with those two high picks this year, the Sens roster would be lethal.

Anyway, I think SJ would also benefit because they can just accept the dunk cost of the deal and have a couple picks to play with. Also, Gruden will be a decent player in 3-4 seasons when SJ’s rebuild is kinda over.

Anyway, just my opinion

He is still darn good, but that contract was a bad contract the moment he signed it. Not sure what San Jose is doing. They have saddled themselves with huge contracts for Karlsson, Burns, Vlasic, Couture, Kane that will all end in their mid to late 30s, couple that with larger contracts for hertl, meier and jones and i dont see it. they are forced into selling the future for now but as we saw this year, yikes.

I don't see Karlsson considering it either.

Probably not, because of the relationship with Melnyk. I think in a different situation he would love to be back home in Ottawa. It's still his home.

Yeah you seem to forget that Eugene Melnyk is still the owner of the Sens, Noway is Melnyk taking on $11m per for the next 6 to 7 years forget that right now.
