Looks like we're giving a lot for these cap dumps. Toronto gave up a first to get rid of Marleau at 6.25 and now not only we take two years of Stralman at 5.5 but we also give Poehling?

Marleau was a 35 over contract and wasn’t goiing to play for the Hurricanes. That was a complete different situation. Stralman contract suck but it the 14th overall pick and Stralman can probably be traded for a 2nd or 3rd round pick with salary retain by Montreal.

I'm pretty sure you can remove Poehling in that kind of trade tho. Stralman doesn't fit any of our needs and if they really want to get rid of his contract, we shouldn't be giving assets.

Montreal have the prospect pool to make that move. Poehling is a interesting prospect but is kind of stuck behind Suzuki, KK, Danault and even Evans. Plus montreal have tons of depth at Center with Olofsson, Hillis and Ikonen. So sacrificing one players to get the 14th overall pick and select a Pure goal scorer is in my opinion a excellent move.

I like these ideas. MTL should be trying to sp exactly this and get high picks for taking up contracts with a flat cap.

It would depend however on who is still there at 11 for the Minny trade, Domi is worth a 15-20 pick by himself and you're taking on a contract means it would have to be for a Holtz or maybe if Sanderson drops but MTL would really have to like the player.

Like i put in the description Minnesota doesn’t do this if Lundell isn’t available since they are looking for a center. I think Montreal will have Sanderson with that pick. But like you said it will depend a lot on what players is available

I could also see them using 38 and 39 picks to move up into the 1st again, hopefully in the 20-23 range. Especially if Mercer or Mysak drop at all.

I know Donald Audette since he live near my house and i i know that the Habs love the Lhjmq players from this year. He talked about defenseman so i assume he was talking about Poirier, Villeneuve and possibly Barron if they keep their 39th pick

Dont think Poirier makes drops that far but I'd be thrilled with Barron with that pick

See Poirier goiing in late first early second so if he is available at maybe 28 the habs could move up and still have the Blackhawks second round pick.
