3$2,750,000

1$925,000
UFAYEARSCAP HIT
2$1,000,000
Trades
1.
COL
  1. Demers, Jason
Additional Details:
Arizona need to open capspace to try to resign Hall and it makes sense to move one of Goligoski ($5.475m) or Demers ($3,937,500/1 year).

Arizona don't want much salary back, but with Soderberg and Richardson both heading to UFA it makes sense to at least acquire a young and cheap bottom 6 center (Kamenev) in addition to a pick.
ARI
  1. Kamenev, Vladislav [RFA Rights]
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
*** 3 WAY TRADE ***

To Colorado: Kapanen (for 2021 COL 2nd + $1,937,500 retention for 1 year)

To Toronto: Demers (@$2m) for Kapanen

To Arizona: Kamenev + 2021 COL 2nd (for Demers)
2.
COL
  1. Kapanen, Kasperi
Additional Details:
Colorado receives a fast middle 6 forward that can help the PK, at the cost of a pick and capspace that would likely be unused in 2020/21.
TOR
  1. Demers, Jason
Additional Details:
Toronto receive a physical 2nd pairing RHD at an affordable $2m caphit. This trade also opens up $1.2m in capspace that can go towards resigning Mikheyev.
3.
COL
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (VGK)
  2. 2020 3rd round pick (CBJ)
LAK
  1. Zadorov, Nikita [RFA Rights]
4.
COL
  1. 2021 2nd round pick (OTT)
  2. 2021 4th round pick (COL)

he's also declined steadily for the last 3-4 years. he'd be an ok add, but not at the expense of kapanen

Demers isn't even worth Johnsson imo, much less Kapanen.

The guy is pretty meh and also bit overpaid. You could get a player of his level much cheaper via free agency.

What do you think Colorado would need to add on top of Demers (50% retained) to make it worthwhile for Toronto?

Also, do you think the price paid to Arizona for Demers (2nd + Kamenev) is fair?

Demers would be retained so would only have a $2m caphit with Toronto. Do you still think that's overpaid?

What 2nd pairing RHD free agents do you think you can get at such a low cap hit without giving up lots of term?

Imo Demers is not a 2nd pairing RHD. He isn't that even in ARI. He's a 3rd pair D, tops. 7th D in good teams.

Arizona actually had Demers with OEL for some time and he averaged 20:30 of ice time last year. He's probably an average 2nd pairing RD or a very strong 3rd pairing RHD. He was also 3rd in PK time (behind Goligoski by just (0:05).

Only due to injuries. Had Chychrun or Hjalmarsson been healthy, Demers would have no position in their first pairs. Probably wouldn't even be in the lineup.

He's easily at least Arizona's 5th Dman, comfortably ahead of Oesterle.

OEL ------------ Hjalmarsson
Chychrun ---- Goligoski
Oesterle ----- Demers

I'd say they prefer Lyubushkin over Demers long-term, but yeah for now he's their 5th D.
