Jets 2020-2021

Created by: JetsHunter
Team: 2020-21 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 6, 2020
Published: Jun. 6, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The trade is to make some cap space for Little in case he's able to play (would play the 3rd line and Chibisov would come out). Montreal gets a solid bottom 6 veteran and a cheap defense man plus a higher pick for the help. And if he can't then we have cap for future trades.

I would give both Copp and Roslovic a shot at 2C through the season and the other would play on the 3rd line which I made a young scoring line (hopefully) and the 4th line is our shutdown line with 3 physical forwards.

I have been seeing lots of Edmundson signings here and also signing Demelo really helps our defense look quite solid (each signed 3 years to give time for our prospect to get some experience). 1st pair shutdown, 2nd pair Pionk offense and Edmundson plays physical shutdown and the 3rd pair I give Samberg a shot with either Niku (if he can stay healthy) or Beaulieu.

I think that this is a playoff-contending team. I would give De Melo $4 million for 4 or 5 years. Good defensive RDs are hard to find, and you don't want to be looking for another one in 3 years.

True, I just want to see more of Demelo's game with the team before signing him that long. Maybe after the playoffs I will agree and I'm fine increasing his salary to 4-4.5 to keep him around.

I don't think I'm overstating it when I say signing De Melo long-term should be your primary objective this off-season.

Montreal accepts.

That's an easy yes!
Perreault contract expires before all our big UFAs need to be signed, plus we pick up a prospect and a pick.
And we could probably trade Perreault at the trade deadline for a 5th to a team looking for play-off depth.

This trade has MB written all over it.

Oh I agree, he's needed to help the defense not look terrible. Hellebuyck shouldn't have to carry the team every night with the defense like this.

Also yep, we get the cap we need and make room for other prospects to play (not that Poolman is bad, just have a lot of better prospects coming) in that bottom pair and you get future picks for your future.

Montreal accepts, although we don’t really have much use for Poolman. Although it never hurts to have a lot of options. Perrault is good for the team, because he only has a year left, and he’s a depth forward that we could use in the NHL.
