I think it’s fair and possibly lowballing. I have him at 7.5x8. But not bad at all and the team looks solid.

not a huge fan of the 8 years, but the cap hit is roughly what he'd be looking for to stay in Boston...maybe a bit more.

The term is looooooong, maybe pay him a bit more and try to cut a year or 2 off. 6 years 7.75 million

There’s a trend with Sweeney negotiations with his own players.
He takes a long time. It comes right down to the wire, and it seems to always result in a team friendly deal.

I think he gets 8M if you want only 6 years. Other teams will likely be willing to offer 8M+ for 7 years.

He makes 9.5M less if he takes 6 years and I doubt he recovers that on a 35+ contract.

Obviously. I wanted to make it a fair deal not straight up Krug takes multimillion discount or else there's no question...

Anyway would you let him walk if this was the deal he negotiated?

what 8 years at 7 mil? Probably, but chances are he wouldnt get another 8 year offer (for that very reason), so he comes crawling back saying "fine ill do it for 6 years" ... "ah Torey welcome back bud, glad we agreed"

The most years he can get with another team is 7 years but he'll be getting over 8M if he signs for another team.

7Mx5 is basically impossible. No reason why he'd take that little term way too much risk for him. That would be worse for him than signing 6Mx8.

The idea of that is that teams dont want a 35/36/37 year old with that much money, unless they are worth it. Right now the bruins (and other teams) have no clue if he will regress or stay. I dont anticipate him getting more than 7 years, or less than 6. So With the bruins he will be 7x6years or 7x7years . Other teams will be 8.5 x 6 or7years

Just a great player that may have priced himself out of Boston.

Tough decision for Sweeney. Expansion draft coming soon as well.

He's elite offensively but has just bad defensive instincts. Boston is a perfect place for him

I think the 7 million is just about right. However, I don't see Boston interested in 8 years. I think the most they'll go is 6 years

the thing is, he's really not that bad defensively. He's obviously not great, but he's a lot stronger along the boards than one would think. He's there to move the puck up the ice with pace and he does that perfectly. The one thing is, St Louis really targeted him in the finals and he was getting exposed in the defensive end during that series, he just couldn't find an adjustment. You said it though, Boston truly is the perfect place for him based on Cassidy's system. One dman needs to move the puck up quick while the partner is more defensively responsible. Krug is the best puck mover they got.

When it comes to battling in the corner hes fine even undersized its his positional play and transitioning from the offensive zone to the defensive zone he takes some odd angles and just doesn't see the play well. For a guy who skates so well its surprising
