That’s realistic. If FLA is serious about cutting cap that is a good return.

From Dallas perspective - no.

Like the player, but this would set us back in the long term. Short term would help offense, but also force a few guys into roles they’re not ready for. So we don’t necessarily get better, dynamics just change, and then we struggle for years after with lack of talent pipieline.

Well the point of this is to win now so you can't really be looking ahead too much

Don’t disagree, just not sure that particular trade gets us there.

I mean that defense is more than cup caliber, you have tons of forwards who can play both ends and have playoff experience, you have bishop who is great in the playoffs, the most you would really need to add is a rental 2C if dellandrea doesn't develop fast enough

This trade doesn’t make sense for the Stars. If the idea is to win now why are you including Guri and Hintz? I feel like both of those guys will take a step forward next year and the two of them combined should produce similar points to Huber at around the same cap hit. So you’re giving away a first round pick and Harley and creating a hole at 2C. You’re also giving away controllable assets for a guy that will be a UFA in a few years
Goofie liked this.

I believe D is our top priority. We really need a top pair RD. Klinger could stay with Lindell on 2nd pair, and bottom pair could benefit from an added resource to push/support Johns and Oleksiak.

Team D is good, and shelters some of the challenges the current D group has. This does create offensive challenges as a biproduct, which is why production is down across the board.

Do we need fwds too? Yes. We’ve got Robertson and Caamano ready now, and others like Dellandrea not far behind. So, patience and a FA or two will help, but we certainly aren’t so far away that we need to push that many future assets to the middle of the table.

The pens without a defensive system like yours or even individual Dmen like yours survived defensively in 2017, you have 3 top 4 Dmen and one who can step up on occasion in johns so I think they'll be fine

I’m certainly not arguing we’re a solid team, and one that could be built more for the playoffs than reg season. Every team has opportunities, just outlying where I believe we are rn, and what an approach to next season might look like. Believe me, I’m hoping we’re hoisting a cup at the end of the return to play, as ‘99 was a long time ago.

100% agree. The result of this trade is that the Stars goes back to a one line team after we just have been able to produce some limited offense with two lines. On top of which we are giving up a not too distant Top 4 D according to Pronman and a first round pick. This is way too much for JH who is an incredible player.

Guri and hintz are the young yet proven kind of talent florida would want back, believe me if I felt florida would go for less I wouldn't have included them, but I really think this is the kind of package they need to let go of hubey, I'd much rather do faksa if they were fine with it but idk

Oh from Florida’s side these are absolutely the pieces I’d ask for. But it takes too much from the Stars current lineup to make the Stars better. I just don’t see this trade working. Adjust it so it works for the Stars and Florida could probably do better elsewhere. That could change though. I’ve watched Harley play. Some time in the NHL showing what he can do will raise his value dramatically

Solid trade and likely what it would take. Also still have $5.5m to add some defensive or offensive talent -- if you take out one of the ELC contracts that may need another year of development, you have over $6m -- For instance, if you add Hubredeau and potentially Hoffman (or someone like that), then damn, this team would be nasty.
