The thought behind this trade is more for term and future planning. This trades allows a pressure free 2 years for Primeau to ripen in the farm and also gives stability in the back-up role during that time.

So, the penguins don't care about that. They aren't making trades for MTL benefit.
There is no benefit for the penguins to do this, at all.

You want them to trade an NHL capable backup for an AHL level back up goalie. They aren't doing that. There is no benefit for them to do this, at all.

DeSmith was in the Farm for Pitt too. This trade will save Pitt $500k and if they do trade Murray (As rumored) then they could receive a attain a very good D or F of similar caliber. That $500k goes a long way in Pitt.

DeSmith cost $175,000. Who cares.
This doesn't help the penguins at all. Period.
