  1. Samorukov, Dmitri
  2. 2021 3rd round pick (EDM)
Additional Details:
Colorado get a near-NHL-ready LHD prospect who has good mobility and plays a solid all-round game.

With 1-2 more seasons in the AHL he can iron out his game and then make the step up to the 3rd pair behind Byram and Girard when Graves starts to price himself out.
EDM
  1. Jost, Tyson [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Edmonton get a young, cheap, and defensively-responsible 3C with top 6 upside.

Edmonton can afford to move Samorukov given that they have Klefbom, Nurse, Broberg, and Jones at LHD.

It’s a good ask if you don’t want holland ever responding to you again.

Avs have no interest in Puljujarvi. He needs to play on a scoring line to be successful, but we're beyond the time of giving roster spots away to reclamation projects.

Why? Jost is at least a proven 3rd liner (with 2nd line upside), which is more than you can say of Puljujarvi at this stage. I think Holland would take that deal pretty easily.

(1) Which one of Klefbom, Nurse, Broberg and Jones do you see Samorukov beating out?

(2) Which one of Edmonton's bottom 6 or prospects do you see Jost NOT beating out?

Too much risk for Avs? Not worth it for a 3rd pairing Dman?

I figure that a pick + prospect who plays a position that's shallow in our prospect pool would be a reasonable return on Jost, instead of just dropping him for 2nd + 3rd round picks that won't impact the roster for like 3 years.

What's your logic? Jost could help Edmonton immediately, whereas with Samorukov you may have to wait another year, and even then there's no guarantee he gets ahead of Klefbom/Nurse/Jones/Broberg.

Seems like a pretty sensible trade to make, purely from a positional perspective. Most of the risk is also on Colorado's side given that they're the ones taking on futures.

Ok, I never said not having Jost is a good idea, I just don’t want to give a prospect like Samarukov for him.

My logic is that I don’t want to trade Samarukov for that, and I don’t mind the gamble. Also I would like Jost, and I think he would be a good 3c for Edmonton however I don’t want to give up on a good prospect. Now you see that there is different ways for Edmonton obtaining Jost, instead of moving a good defence man, that will be part of our finale future D core. Now I can see us trading Nurse, because on his next contract (after the extension) he will want too much. He will probably want around 8-10M which is way too much for an ok defence man. Then you have Klefbom, Jones, Broberg. Well I think we are going to get screwed and Seattle will pick Jones, because we won’t have enough slots to protect him. We will protect Nurse, Klefbom, and Bear. So that would leave Jones open. Now you see why I wouldn’t do that trade, because our future D core will probably have Klefbom, Jones, and Samarukov on the left.

Out of curiosity, what do you think Colorado would have to add to Jost to get Samorukov? Or are you just totally against trading him?

Thanks for clarifying, much appreciated. Makes sense.

Curious what you had in mind when referring to other ways of acquiring Jost? Edmonton don't have a 2020 2nd or 2021 2nd which means that you're looking at trading a prospect instead...

Honestly I am totally against trading Samorukov. Now I may overvalue him, because I got told I have before. Maybe Samorukov for Jost, and a 2nd?? I know I might be way overvaluing him, but that’s how much I like him. But you don’t have the second i like. I would want a 2020 early 2nd so like 32-40 range.

I wasn’t planning on trading Benson, so I don’t know what you are getting at hahah. Now as you know, you are now just making up these “rules”. And how much “rules” are there?? And if you don’t mind to name them all that would be great.

I meant Jones would get picked by Seattle, then our finale left handed D core would be Klefbom, Broberg, Samorukov.

Well that's definitely not happening. Jost is worth around a 2nd and 3rd on his own, so even adding anything to him for an unproven player is a stretch.

Samorukov may be a nice prospect, but you're definitely overvaluing him with that ask.

As a comparison I've asked Winnipeg fans about Chisholm (3rd highest scoring Dman in his junior league this year) and a couple of their fans agreed that Chisholm + 3rd for Jost was agreeable. Needless to say, though Samorukov is a nice prospect I think there would be much better options elsewhere than your counter-proposal.

I would be careful about trading Jost. He had a pretty positive impact this season but just hasn't quite found his scoring touch at the NHL level. He could still boom, but you also know he won't bust. And since he's cheap, it makes sense to hold onto him unless an offer is too good to pass up (imo).

We just don't need him. We have young left-handed forwards (Heinen, Milano, Jones, Comtois) and good young center prospects (Steel, Lundestrom, Groulx) to fill the middle 6 coming out our ears. (I assume Zegras is going to be a #1 or #2 eventually.)

Now Martin Kaut interests me, but he's probably too rich for our blood. Plus he's on an ELC and you wouldn't want to trade him for that reason alone.
