The idea is good don't get me wrong but Seabrook's term probably prevents this deal from getting done. Remove the 2nd rounder going to VAN and add a good amount of retention on Sebs (like at least 1,75 mil per) and maybe VAN bites

Dont think Strome take 5 mill at 8 years. If the price is 5 mill he will prob want a lesser term deal

Best we would do is retain the 875k to make it an even cap hit with Erikson. But even doing that we would have to trade someone else to get the cap space. A top 10 pick is a heavy price to pay that VAN should still consider this. They get a top 10 pick, a 2nd, and 5.5 mil in cap space. Hawks shred the extra 2 years on seabs plus get Joulevi and Demko

Right but VAN takes on more term of dead cap which doesn't help them at all so they still decline this

Regardless of Demko and Juolevi, trading a top 10 pick is not worth getting rid of Seabrook if we are bringing back and equally bad contract.

Seabs is coming off double surgery. You and me obviously don't have a crystal ball, but don't you think it might be just as likely that he goes on LTIR. Aren't we just redoing the Bickell/Turbo trade all over again?

This, and even if he doesnt, we dont really have any expiring contracts of consequence after this year until the year Toews and Kane come off the books. Kane likely stays on a similar cap hit, but the Toews contract is gonna save atleast 3 mil, partnered with the fact that Maatta and Smith have cheap buyouts, De Haan should be easy to move, yadda yadda yadda, we arent really in a cap-strapped scenario anymore
