DRW - Flat cap

Created by: BStinson
Team: 2020-21 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 30, 2020
Published: Jul. 15, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Forgot to mention, Steen was a buyout probably only way he waives to come to Detroit. Eriksson makes more actual dollars in US and is given more ice time for a potential next contract? I think this maxed the amount of futures we do get as we will be able to flip Haula, Nemeth, Glendening, and Helm for additional picks. Haula signs with us because we guarantee a 2C spot and more $ for him to potentially cash out next year when teams may have a little more wiggle room.

Flame away!

First turns into a 2nd for a 4th Steen has 1 year left it was 2+ years a first would be included but 2nd is non-negotiatable at this point.

I definitely prefer the 2nd because goalie prospects typically don’t hold the same value as comparable forwards/defenseman. I also tried to offset the picks you’ve already lost to space them out which is why this is 2022.

How do you figure? He’s a 5.75M buyout while Marleau was 6.25M that’s only a 500k difference but without a flat cap. That’s why I added the third to offset the 500k.

Canucks definitely accept, I think it costs more to unload Eriksson unfortunately .

I think Vancouver ultimately accepts if its a 2nd anyways, we'd just really prefer to pay an equivalent amount of lesser picks instead of one good one. Benning was throwing 2nds out the window in his first couple of years though so it should be fine.

If it costs more then I wouldn’t complain but I do think it helps that his contract was front loaded as owners may be a little more tight.

Completely understand I personally highly value second rounders as two of core players (Bert & Hronek) are second rounders.

Unlike Marleau, Steen actually has something valuable like one of the best defensive stats in the league.

Yes, Steen is suitable in a 4th line capacity but is that worth 5.75M instead of 900K-1M? The difference between a late second round pick and a first is pretty substantial and offset in 500k plus replacement was why the 3rd was added. If Steen only comes with a second that’d be a hard pass. I’d much rather have the cap flexibility then to help another team without fair compensation.

It might not be worth that much but it’s not a complete raw dump.
