This doesn't really help Vancouver that much. They have to be proactive and move guys like Roussel, Beagle, or Eriksson instead

That's an awful lot of money to take on to swap back up goalies.

I would think freeing up $8 million in cap for a backup goalie would do alot for Vancouver trying to keep their UFAS

Cap Space:In professional sports, a salary cap is an agreement or rule that places a limit on the amount of money that a team can spend on players' salaries. It exists as a per-player limit or a total limit for the team's roster, or both.

Hutton is trash and Demko has starter potential all for some expiring cap dumps?

That's a great package of cap dumps for the nucks. I don't think Buffalo wants to take on all that dead space even for a great goalie prospect though.

Sure, but then they're in the same situation next year which is a bigger problem with Petey and Hughes needing contracts

yea, teams usually dont take on 3 cap dumps to upgrade their back up goalie position.

especially teams whose owners just came out and told the world they were going to be cheap moving forward.

but, no one would do this

They only have 42 million committed to 21 - 22. That's 22 million more available then they have this year. If they make this move they would have 25 million available this year and as long as they dont resign all of their ufas, rfas and a bunch of ufas from other teams they should have lots of money to sign hughes and Petterson.

Narrow-minded. Demko has potential to be a starter. Hutton is 33, the main reason we didn't make the playoffs, has optical issues, and is straight pile. those expiring dumps are EXPIRING and the team gives up nothing. The owners will continue to run this team to the ground but you are not convincing me this is a bad move.

Expiring cap space for a potential starter? easy decision for us.

its a horrible move, you are lighting 8 million dollars on fire for no reason. if they decide not to move forward with hutton, just buy him out and sign a UFA goalie

its thatcher demko plus 8 million dollars, we would be paying a backup goalie essentially 9 million dollars.

just stop.

stop saying "our" and "we" you arent a sabres fan.

and yes, taking on 3 cap dumps for a backup goalie is a bad idea. if somehow we are good this year we have no cap space to add to the team, and we likely have to deal with another round of overages due to rookie bonuses. which impacts us next year when we are trying to sign dahlin and jokiharju.
