I've been toying with the idea of Labanc to Ottawa for a very similar pricepoint.

I think there's a little bit of risk involved with the Sens paying pick #21 for a guy who isn't completely proven. Granted, the Sharks had an abysmal year, but the kind of drop-off Labanc had would give me pause before handing him a large deal or trading such a quality asset for him.

Does something along the lines of the NYI pick (#21) + the DAL pick (#53) for Labanc + the TBL pick (#31) hold water?

Probably not enough to be honest. If the 2nd was a little bit earlier then maybe but I do think we could get a 1st for Labanc. That offer is close to fair, but probably a little off imo.

I would without a doubt do Labanc and Colorado's 2020 2nd for the Islander's 2020 1st, though.

I mean, Ottawa has the second rounders to burn. What I've gathered from Sens fans is that #33 is off the table unless the deal is way too good to pass up. The Columbus pick looks like it'll be #46 and the NYI pick would be #52. Does the CBJ 2nd get that deal done?

I'm playing around with a bunch of mock draft scenarios and suspect that Ottawa is going to want a quality RW by the time they get to the NYI 1st. Problem being, I have Gunler gone at #17 and Perreault gone at #20: the next best option for the position appears in the early 2nd round. I think there's a scenario where Ottawa trades that pick either for immediate help or down in the draft to take their choice of Weissblat or Foerster. I think this deal accomplishes both.

definitely closer

would you do the Islander's 2020 1st, Columbus' 2020 2nd and Dallas' 2020 2nd for Labanc, Tampa's 2020 1st, and Washington's 2021 3rd?

It might be a bit of column A and a bit of column B type scenario. Dorion has gone on record saying this draft is too deep to go off the board. I believe the feeling around here is that he's saving some picks in 2021 to use as bait for the expansion draft and some picks in this years draft to snag a solid, young top 6 forward or top 4 D from a team in cap trouble. I don't think the NYI first is off the table, but it probably wouldn't be for Labanc. Maybe a Cirelli from the TBL.

This is all moot if NYI ends up with #1 overall (chances are low...) the pick then shifts to next year.

That being said I wouldn't mind a Labanc in Ottawa.

I think Ottawa would be more inclined to trade a name like Chlapik and the WPG 3rd (2020, #78) than move two seconds in a deal like this.

Statistically, the Lightning are better off moving heaven and hell in order to keep Cirelli and Sergachev than trade and/or lose them, and I think they recognize that. Not sure the exacts behind how they manage it, but it's Tampa. I've come to just expect it from them now. Some very dumb things would have to happen in order for the Islanders to not beat Florida and win the lottery: I can see Bobrovsky getting hot out of nowhere, but the latter, I can't. In the case it ends up being pick #15, I think the point is moot: reaching a smidge to pick Gunler at #15 is justifiable.

You have more insight than I do. How does:

Chlapik + NYI 2020 1st (#21) + CBJ 2020 2nd (#46) + WPG 2020 3rd (#78) for Labanc + TBL 2020 1st (#31)

feel for the Senators?

The loss of Chlapik will hurt a lot less if the return is Labanc. Chlappy is basically our Pageau (lite) replacement at the moment. (Fringe 3rd line player).

The difference between 21 and 31 is where it may get complicated. A lot of people have Hendrix Lapierre dropping to 21. Ottawa could go with a Mavrik Bourque or a Jan Mysak at 21? If they feel they can get a similar player at 31, albeit maybe a 1 year more away from truly competing for a roster spot; then sure. I'm all for it. Especially if Labanc is included.

I have Lapierre going to the Hurricanes via Toronto's pick (#19ovr): if there's a team that has the prospect pool to afford swinging big on a kid who was supposed to be top-5 this season but lost it to injury, it's absolutely the Hurricanes. I have Bourque going at 16: he mocks really high with Wheeler and EPRinkside and really only falls into that range on Pronman's ranking. Error in McKeen;s ranking could have him within reach of #21, but I know the Flames and Jets are hard up for top-six centers and right handed shots: terrible overlap in this case if you're hoping for Bourque to fall.

Mysak mocks into a lot of second rounds and really only makes first-round appearances near the end of the round. He's in consideration for the Senators even if they trade back to #31 tbh.

Honestly, this is all really good to know. There is just so much hype surrounding these prospects this year that it kind of gets convoluted. I feel if the player Dorion wants at whatever position NYI's pick is gone, he'll make a deal on the floor similar to this mock-up.

Do you think Chlapik could become a potential 3C in the future? Because that would be huge for us.

I think he'll top out as a 3C in Ottawa. He's got a some skill and some decent sand paper. Pretty consistent in Belleville. Fallen down the depth charts due to Norris (thank you) and Brown. If no trades are made for him, he'll definitely be our 4C at the start of the season.

I'm happy. Just hoping 2016 Erik Karlsson shows up again. I know it's in him but the injuries have really taken their toll...

He is as stupid and sexy as ever though so I have no reason to complain
